Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

There's something so lovely about the teak monasteries and they're really special when you consider that the stocks of teak are dwindling dramatically. I hope there will always be enough to maintain these beautiful buildings in their original state. There is something very peaceful and calming about the teak. I think it must be the juxtaposition of the light and shade which the dark wood engenders. This monastery is right in the middle of the city and as with the other teak buildings we had seen, the bas relief carvings are skillfully exceuted and so beautiful. The little images are so full of personality. I even saw a very western traditional angel! Surprise!!

This building was one of the few not to be destroyed in the war.
The age and gentle faded elegance of this building is immediately apparent at first glance. The carvings although plentiful, add a delightful 3D embellishment to the building.
The restrained elegance of this building really does stand out amongst all the gilded palaces and pergolas.
Not to be missed, loved it!

Shwenandaw Monastery is famous historical site in Mandalay. It was an apartment of King Mindon. It is only one remaining royal palace hall from Mandalay Royal Palace. It was maintained by Archaeological Department. It is open 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM. There is no close day. If you go to there, we have to pay entrance fees. That entrance fees, 10,000 kyats include Golden Palace Monastery, Mandalay Royal Palace and Innwa(or) Ava.

An original wooden structure but surprisingly only 130 years old. Ornately decorated with various carvings and untouched features. There's not a lot to see inside except the many large wooden pillars providing the roof support.

Absolut Gems in the city! The only one really old and perfectly preserved!
Teak wood carving work and architectural elements makes you feel humble and admirative; the special atmosphere of the place brings you back in time...
Take enought time to admire all detailed and get immerged into the grandeur of this civilization.
Not to be missed in Mandalay !!

Shwenandaw Monastery had us in awe, and not just because we were out of breath from climbing all those stairs! The intricate wood carvings were so detailed, we joked about moving in and becoming part of the decor. The serene atmosphere was perfect for some couple's meditation... or in our case, a silent giggle fest. Definitely worth the accidental detour!

A relatively small structure near Atumashi Kyaungdawgyi Pagoda. A nice change of pace with some beautiful wood work. It is a pretty quick walkaround and well worth the short detour from the tour of the major sites.

The teak wood buildings at the monastery are beautified by the carvings which adorn their Burmese architectural style. Some of the carvings remain coveted in gold leaf. Remove your footwear before entering any of the places of worship. It no longer remains a fully functioning monastery.

The all wooden teak monastery was built about 1880, in the Kone Bhaung era, and is in an archeological zone. Currently undergoing restoration.

Ciao!

May I know if there's any entrance fees to enter the palace please? Also is there group discount. Thanks!
Written 27 October 2016
Yes there is a fee for all tourists. from memory it's around £6. Also you have to wear trousers or skirts well below the knee or they won't let you in. You must remove shoes at the entrance and suggest you carry them with you in a plastic bag as I had my flip flops stolen from the entrance.
