An hour whizzed by! The puppeteers are amazing as they recreate the intricate movements of breathing and hand tapping. After the show take a cycle rickshaw home - JoJo will be waiting outside and is very reasonable (he works to support his mum who's in...More

This was a must do in Mandalay. Love that they are keeping the tradition alive. Great show. Tickets 15,000 kyat and worth every bit of it. Nice, English speaking staff.

My friend and I really enjoyed this performance. Not only do you get to enjoy the intricate marionettes, but every now and then they break the "4th wall" to let you see the handlers above, which is fascinating. They're accompanied by a live 5-piece traditional...More

I loved everything about this experience - the small theatre, the friendly performers who were happy to talk about their art, the music and of course, the puppets. I was entranced and charmed by the performance, especially when the puppeteer in his 80s came and...More

I attended the Myanmar marionette show in Mandalay last night, and loved it. It's a playful cultural show highlighting Myanmar society, along the lines of the water puppet show in Saigon, Vietnam (also worth seeing). I thought that the young lady mimicking a puppet in...More

My boyfriend and I were the only audience at the show. However, instead of cancelling the show, the musicians and puppeteers delivered an impeccable performance. The show consists of live chamber music, and scenes from a variety of traditional marionette performances. It was such a joy...More

I mean sure, it isn’t Broadway. It’s an authentic Burmese show. So you go with an open mind and it is very interesting. I’ve never seen a show quite like this (or heard music quite like this). Wear mosquito spray before you go. It can...More

The oldest puppeteer still performs here and that's probably why the show was as good as it was! Plus, some scenes were just hilarious so if you're looking for some fun in Mandalay, deff visit for a show

The show begins at 8:30 and lasts for over an hour. Go online to get reservations in advance since your one night in Mandalay might coincide with a big tour group. You would not want to arrive to find all the tickets... More
