Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

An old stone tower with a simple, rectangular structure. As a result of a not very inspired renovation, it now has a pyramidal glass roof. Unfortunately it cannot be visited, all you can do is get to its base. From the platform here you have a beautiful view of the city. A path through the forest leads you to the White Tower.

When we visited, the quantity of graffiti, broken lighting and bars on the door, together with the leaves blown up against the door, gave us the distinct impression that this had not been open for quite some time. Whilst you may not be able to get to the top (although judging by the spayed tag on the outside of the glass, someone clearly had managed to scale the outside) the view from the bottom of the tower is still worth the short climb up to it. There are benches en-route if you need a rest.

The Turnul Negru or Black Tower is an end of the 16th / beginning of the 17th century. It was built in the 19th century and is part of the former city fortification. It has a beautiful view of the city center.

One of the towers reached by paths on the outskirts of town. We found this tower a little run down and not particularly well kept. Vista of the town is obstructed by lots of trees, the views are much better from the white tower.

The Black Tower of Brasov - 1 of the 4 towers that were built outside the city walls as standalone pieces of fortification. It was/is a watch-tower - with the purpose of spotting enemy movements outside the walls and also kill as many as possible (if possible) - built in the 15th century, with 3 levels of murder holes on all 4 sides - and walls 2 m thick at their base , for sure it was a formidable defensive system.
Today it is worth climbing to it - so you can have a look at the city from the small platform that you shall find there after a short climb uphill from the "Dupa Ziduri" (HInter der Graf) street.
Pity it is closed - so you cannot access he upper level - the roof is made of glass ...
Good thing is - nobody is charging you anything to visit this tower ... no the interior but you can still make some great pics of the city from the small platform in front of the tower.
PS: the name - although the tower is bright white is coming from its blackened walls during a fire 1689 - it got struck by lightning.

Close to the city centre. The tower is not open however, the views over the city make the walk up the hill worthwhile.

I first climbed the steps to the Black Tower in the pouring rain as part of the Free Walking Tour. Despite the downpour, the views were nice and very reminiscent of Transylvania and the area. It fit with the stories of the region. The Black Tower is one of the first defense towers in Brasov, built in the 15th century. It is one of the four observation towers of Brasov, built as an independent fortification located outside the city walls. The Black Tower got its name after it was struck by lightning in 1559. What is amazing about it is that the tower is actually white (confirmed when I visited it again during the day!). There are four floors inside, each reached by a narrow wooden ladder. There was also some urban planning in its placement as the Black Tower is located exactly on the same line as the Blacksmith’s Bastion (today’s branch office of the National Archives), 31 meters away, on a rock coming out of the hill. They say it has been built as far back as the 14th century and its position on a rocky part of the city made it a vantage point both for defense and internal security. The tower was used during the 1756 plague epidemic as a quarantine shelter during the city's forced quarantine. Some claim the tower is now haunted. I did not hear any inhabitants when I visited.

However, the first documentary mention of the tower dates from 1541.
The tower is 11 m high, and its walls measure 2 m thick at the base. It has six shooting goals on each side, arranged on three rows of attack. Inside it has three galleries and, earlier, the tower had a system of connection with the Fortress through a movable bridge that was connect with the Blacksmith's Bastion.
