This fairy tale gate, Catherine’s Gate in English, Ectaerinei in Romanian, is a spectacular gate dating back to 1559. The city’s coat of arms can be seen on the gate.

4 small towers surrounding a larger central one is an indication that the authorities in the town had the power to execute miscreants

Most people say this is a gate of the medieval town. In fact, this is only the barbican (the gate tower) of the medieval gate. The actual gate was a big fortress, around 70 metre (200 ft) long.

Braşov needs to work on signage to locate the historical areas. The gate is located around modern building. It looks polished and modern so we were not sure it is was an entrance to a home or park. It is nice and with the walk....More

Note the spires on the gate. This indicates a city with the Warrant to mete out the death penalty. Picturesque and nicely restored.

the only original gate still surviving from the Medieval times. There was something about the turrets that reminded me of a Disney theme park, they looked pretty stunning against the blue skies.

Good to see the historical gate well maintained. The links to the past were well explained by our guide. Very interesting.

A lovely little building, right next to the Schei gate, easy to reach from Piata Sfatului, as it is very close.

Lovely building, which was the original gate to the district and until the 1800’s the only way to enter the local district. There are lots of benches to relax and ponder the lovely building. There are benches in the shade if you are lucky enough...More

An attractive building, no longer used as a gate, that's about 90 yards further on. Not really a lot to say about it, but I do encourage the walk around the old city wall.

Interesting. The name that was on the sign next to the gate, at Brasov, was "Porta Sanctae Katharinae."
