Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Stadium is one attractions that make Plovdiv special. Although it is not monumental in a conventional sense, it carries some special feel. IMHO, looks more attractive at night. The Stadium location offers an opportunity to see it multiple times (e.g., at night and daylight).

Situated in the middle of a pedestrian part of town, there has been a small part of the stadium which has been excavated. You can view from the street level looking down or you can walk down a set of stairs to view at eye level. There is a 3D movie you can watch for a small fee of 5 Lev (approx 2.5 Euro)

The exposed portion of the hippodrome of Roman times is quite small, but still imposing, representing the main entrance portal and "end zone" seats, but to imagine that it stretched for several blocks and held 30,000 racing fans is remarkable. It is great that the city fathers who located it left a portion intact, right on the main square of this beautiful, vibrant city.

Magnificent in scale, as shown in the model and schematic, it was built in the early 2nd century AD to accommodate about 30,000 eager spectators.
What we see today under the modern city was the curved part of the northern segment. The marble seats are perfectly preserved. A corridor leading from the stadium is also uncovered.
Interestingly, within a store on the pedestrian ul. Knyaz Alexander I another section of the structure can be seen through a glass floor space.

Lovely view and things to see going up to this place! Love the old souvenir shops with antiques noting to really buy from them but just great to look at.

It’s in the middle of the Main Street so you won’t miss it. I enjoyed the magnitude of what it used to be, and just crawling on marble benches

I have been to the Ancient Theatre in Plovdiv on a concert, but always wanted to visit it as a tourist and since last year they have finally opened it for paid public visits.
It is such an amazing place. Unique by its size and level of preservation. When you are there, go at the top row and imagine a landscape without all new buildings, revealing a breathtaking view of the mountains in the background and you will understand why it was built there. Go to the stage and experience how the performers perceive the audience and test the unique acoustics. Touch the same stones seats used since ancient time until now. It is amazing how it was converted in to live concert venue offering visitors experience similar to the one of our predecessors.
It is probably one of the most significant historic places to visit when in Plovdiv.

A proper little Roman theatre breaking up the monotony of a typical modern city centre. Great atmosphere at night although most of the orchestra/arena has been subsumed by a restaurant. The sign specifically prohibiting smoking, hot and cold food, pets and firearms is most amusing!

Great site, interesting history, informative short movie, reasonably priced. However the man who sold us the tickets and ran the movie was absolutely rude, condescending and unhelpful. It was like we were bothering him by wanting to see the movie. I guess otherwise he'd of been able to just relax with his friend since we were the only two at the film. He should find another job, this is not a fit for him and gives a negative impression of an otherwise wonderful place. Below is a photo of him should his employer be interested.

The stadium itself is very nice the restaurant not so much. I'm not sure if it was because of the time of day we went but it didn't have many of the items on the menu. The waitress also needed us to pay before receiving our order so the delivery person could get paid. To say the least we wasn't impressed never went back.
