Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The former Bueskuca's Palace now serves as the Hotel Maria, although the sign is still there, with a lion sitting proudly over the main door. Tucked away in a quiet side street off the Main Square, it is not to be missed.

When visiting the old town be sure to look up as there is so much to see. The building itself is unassuming however, the highlight is the ornate entrance (portal) to the building, beautifully crafted gothic architecture.

Above the entry, there is a very interesting (but slightly damaged) Gothic relief of a lion. That is really the main attraction to this historic building.

The palace is between the main (Arms) square and the Flour Square. When originally built (circa mid-1700's), there wasn't any ornamentation and the eye-catching relief of the lion was appropriated by Beskuca; the original owner of the relief was the Bizanti family.

This is not Beskuca's Palace, it is Hotel "Maria", it has 3 stars and it is close to Saint Nicholas' Church.

Once upon a time, a 1776-era Baskuca family member (meaning one with no house) sought to create a new identity for himself. He sought to obtain 100 homes and would then change his name appropriately. His family made their fortunes and names in naval commerce. His dream did not come to fruition.

Fast-forward to the take-over by the Austro-Hungarian Empire and other uses were devised for this structure. The family had died out by now.

The large entry door was designed to accommodate carriages (even though it does not look that large today) and today it is a hotel (or had been).

The winged lion over the door is part of the family crest. It is badly deteriorated today but the lion does look to have a human face and he wears a helmet. A front leg and back foot are missing and this beautiful coat of arms is badly in need of restoration.

And sadly today, this piece of Kotor history is for sale. It is not open for touring unless one has a big checkbook and is a prospective buyer.

It doesn't look as a palace. Palace is a too pretentious term for this building. It doesn't impress with its architecture. Now it seems to house a hotel.

I'm not sure if there are more palaces, or squares in this tiny little old town. This palace has a nice lion craving on the top part, but you can't go in.

I noted several buildings in the Old Town designated or called, "Palace" during my walk here for 2 days. One of these palaces is this attraction.

It does not appear to be open for public visits so I just i took its pictures from outside.
