Get up early for your arrival in the Bay of Kotor
Fantastic views await you as your cruise ship enters the Bay of Kotor. Natural beauty all around. Most cruise ships arrive early into Kotor and leave early evening. Strongly suggest on your day visiting Kotor you rise early and enjoy the vision as your ship enters the Bay

    Picturesque bay
I was lucky to visit on a nice clear day and very much enjoyed the trip around bay. So peaceful and calming, colour of water is amazing and the change of scenery as you move around bay is really nice. I suppose experience of kotor Bay may depend on weather conditions.

Fjord-like bay with history and architecture
Entered the bay at sunrise and our small ship turned several times to reach Kotor. The scenery is spectacular with the mountains, villages, and the famous Madonna of the Rocks Byzantine-style church on the artificial island. The topography resembles a fjord that you would see in Alaska or Norway. Don't miss this one on your next cruise, or if you can, take a boat ride from Kotor itself.

    Absolutely stunning bay
Loved the bay of Kotor. It was absolutely beautiful. We drove in on a bus which took a while and then jumped on a boat to our lady of the rocks and then onto Kotor. Loved the boat trip. Got to enjoy some time at the front of the boat to really take it in. The water and the views are stunning. Proper special place. Definitely get the best view from the water.

    The Balkans’ Greatest Gem
No matter how you experience it, the mountains looming over the pristine Bay of Kotor define why Montenegro is one of the hottest up-and-coming travel destinations in the world. I wish I could’ve taken a ferry along the water, but I just didn’t have time with the other things I wished to accomplish. For all you readers, though: Don’t make the choice I made to skip a boat ride; definitely go out and feel the sea breeze on your trip.

    Beautiful Bay of Kotor
The Bay of Kotor is a beautiful pace to stay or visit with spectacular views and plenty of boat trips. The walks and fantastic places to eat and drink in the local bars along the coastal walkway from the old town, are pretty special. Its a very special up and coming place to visit and the locals are so lovely and friendly. Highly recommend the area

    Significant Feature of Adriatic Coast
We were lucky to see this whole Bay from our cruise ship during the daytime. You need to find a place to see it, whether from a view point up the mountain, or from a bus driving around. It is a huge bay and a significant geographic feature of the Adriatic coast.

    Good for visit
First of all, let me tell you that if you want to come here by car from a different country, you do not need to buy green insurance when you rent a car, it is enough to tell you there when you rent the car. I wanted to share this because all my friends asked me about it. It is great to walk around the castle especially in the evening.

    Beautiful
Absolutely magnificent sail through the Bay of Kotor on a cruise ship. You need to get up early to see the magnificent light and still waters and the sun starting to shine on all the little towns. Was better than sailing the Norwegian fjords.

We sailed into and out of the bay of Kotor whilst on a one day stop to the city on a Thursday in June. The passengers of the ship had been advised to assemble on deck to view the inward journey along the bay as it was particularly scenic. The bay was described as the southernmost fjord in Europe and although having never visited one of these in Norway, the scenery did resemble how I would imagine a fjord to be, (I was later informed that the bay is not a fjord but a Ria).
The trip up the bay gave us a panorama of steep sided hills with dense forestation and small hamlets and villages on the waterline. Small churches were perched just above some of the larger groups of dwellings and a small island contained what looked like a monastery. The sides of the bay and uniformity of the trees gives the impression of the land ‘folding’ on itself.
The stillness of the water gives the opportunity to take some lovely waterline photos with the scenery mirrored in the water.

We visited the Bay of Kotor as a day trip in a cruise and I think it's of the most beautiful harbours I have ever visited. Travelling in, the scenery was stunning and reminiscent of the Norwegian fjords, and for me the trip to Montenegro was the highlight of a 2 week holiday. We took a tender from our ship to the land side and no matter where you looked, the views were beautiful. Viewing out to a simply stunning bay of turquoise water or looking inland to a pretty walled city. From the one day trip, I would love to visit this fabulous country again.

The scenery is beyond description, it’s incredible, and the waters are lovely to take a swim in. Felt very safe throughout, overall the people are lovely. The prices are extortionate…hyper inflated to beyond UK city prices due to being a tourist trap. Do not believe what you read online that a decent meal will cost you €10 and a taxi can take you to nearby towns for 5. A semi decent meal (the food in Kotor we found very bland and lacking personality) will cost you €20 in Kotor, and a taxi to Perast or Tivat, anywhere between €15 and €25, the Kotor traffic is terrible even at Monday lunchtime. Would I advocate visiting…yes…but really for the architecture and the views, don’t waste your money on food here if you can avoid it…and the waiters generally ask for tips, despite often giving very poor service, I think they have a lot to learn to match the expectations of the inflated prices they charge.

This really is stunning. It was so beautiful. The setting and calm waters away from the tourists. Walk along the promenade, take in the views from the city walls of the old town, do a boat tour and a tuk tuk tour around the bay to fully appreciate the scenery. I did all four! Loved it.

Beautifully preserved ancient town. Lots of restaurants and bars within the Walls. Gets very crowded once the Cruise Ships pull in (right next to the Old town). When going for dinner, try to make it after 7pm, the boats have generally gone by then.
HILL CLIMB.....
Be prepared to pay 8€ each. If you get up and back before 8am, the ticket turnstiles are unmanned.
Go as early as possible. The walk is shielded from the sun by rock walls beside the trail, but once the sun is up, the heat rises rapidly. The views at the top are spectacular, we'll worth the effort.
There's a free trail too. Take the long straight road next to the Shopping Centre 'Kamelia' which parallels the river. At the end, behind a disused power station, you'll notice a zigzag trail. Take this. You'll pass a cheese shop etc on the way up. To get into the fortress, just climb through an archway.

There is an old stone ladder with 1500 steps. Rather difficult but the view worth it. I recommend you don’t forget to take bottle of water with you - it helps you to go upstairs more comfortable :) sometimes stairs are broken that’s why you should be in proper shoes.

Lovely place with lots to do in addition to the old town. But it gets very busy during prime tourist season (summers). The best time to visit is late spring or early fall, as most of the activities are still running and are a lot less crowded.

The stunning scenery along the Bay of Kotor is well worth the drive from Dubrovnik and the two hour wait at the Montenegro border. The drive on E65 beside the bay is lovely. If driving it’s a struggle to watch the road. I highly recommend stopping at Perast and taking a boat to the Lady of the Rock and driving through Kotor toward Lovcen just for the view of the bay from higher elevation.

A very peaceful, relaxed ambience. Ships in the harbor; fruit and produce vendors lined up
outside the city walls. The bells of Kotor Old Town chiming the hours. The 1000 year old walls
of the city, and the spires of ancient cathedrals,
and 15th century Venetian architecture. This
area is truly one of those venues that deserves
the moniker, “magical “.
