“Nice ancient gate in Pula”

Porta Gemina is a double Roman city gate. It was built at the end of the 2nd century. It was one of the ten city gates of Pula, which stood on the north side of the capital. U can see here only the gate, nothing more, so take a picture and continue to Fortress Kastel. Another historical sight

These double gates are not hard to locate. We had a nice stroll along in the sun to find them. A map showing all the places of interest is available in the Tourist Information Centre in the Forum square. If you go through them there is an underground museum to do with WWII.

located next to additional ruins that were uncovered in a recent development of a building. Love that the town appreciates its ancient history

Twin Gate is one more remnant of Pula's ancient history. They were constructed at the turn of 2nd nad 3rd AD and been one of the ten gates within city walls that surrounded Colonia Pietas Iulia Pola Pollentia Herculanea. Gate's name coming from its two semi-circular aches. This simple, yet, harmonious construction decorated with three semi-columnes probably owes its survival to the fact of being buried underground during medieval times in order to enhance defensive structures of the town. Double Gate were unearthed during archaeological excavations that took place in the beginning of 19th century. They can be found next to the Park kralja Petra Kresimira at Carrarina Street. Access to the gate is free, and right to the gate there's Archaeological Museum of Istria.

De ja vu all over again.

I could have just copied and pasted my review of the Arco dei Sergii for this. Again a nice little piece of historical architecture does not come with any information or even a name plate. It wouldn’t take much to do and other, less significant, sites around the old town are given big interpretive boards.
Free and accessible 24 hours a day.
More effort required on the part of the tourist board.

Twin Gates

Once the entrance to the city, the twin gates were constructed between the 2nd and 3rd century and now lead to the Archeological Museum and the Castle.
