About
Lokrum Island, home to a botanical garden, salt lake, and Benedictine monastery dating back at least to 1023, is a great escape from the bustle of Dubrovnik. Travelers and locals alike visit this island for its idyllic walking paths, natural swimming pools, and colorful peacocks. It’s also popular among Game of Thrones fans as the filming location for Qarth. A perfect day trip, boats regularly leave from Dubrovnik's Old Town port and take just 15 minutes to get to Lokrum. An additional entrance fee is required on the island. Lokrum is busiest in the summer vacation months of July and August. – Tripadvisor

Lokrum island, an escape from the bustle
We bought our ferry and entrance tickets online rather than queue at the port, so much easier and same price €27 pp. The ferries run every half hour from Old Town port. The island is loose shingle path mostly so sandals weren't great! There are quite a few water fountains and nice clean toilets, plus a cafe and bar although we didn't buy anything as we took a picnic (we were plagued by wasps however on the island every time we got food out). We had a look round the Game of Thrones exhibition which is basically a video showing film locations in Dubrovnik and a few info boards and the replica throne, good but 10 mins max to do. Spent an hour wandering the herb/botanical garden, ornate garden and rock area with entrance into sea. There are metal stairs to climb into the sea and many people dived off the rocks into the sea. I had a quick dip but my daughter spent longer swimming and enjoyed it. There are many spots to swim at on the island. The dead sea area gets busy but looked quite rocky and slippery algae in places underfoot so bring water shoes. There are loads if beautiful peacocks, hens and babies all over the island. We spent about 3-4 hours on the island. There is a variety of things to do and it is a quiet place to escape the crowds of the Old Town, sunbeds overlooking the sea to rest on if you prefer, wooded areas to wander in the cool, swim in the sea, etc.

Peaceful way to spend a few hours
This popped up on our things to do in Dubrovnik. We spent a few hours wandering around the island, sitting on the rocks by the sea and walking through the botanical gardens.  This was a very peaceful experience especially getting up close with the resident peacocks.  The terrain is uneven so trainers are a must and may not suit people with mobility issues. The Ferry boat from the Old Town is about 15 minutes, and crossings are all day every half hour. There is a sea water lake for swimming, plenty of shade and also a Cafe for drinks and bar meals/snacks.

Lokrum Island is a must do!
Gorgeous island! We walked through the monastery and botanical gardens and had a nice appetizer and wine at the nice restaurant. Wild peacocks all over the area. Took the ferry (use your Dubrovnik Pass for a discount—we didn’t know) and spent about 2 hours. The beaches looked nice but we were short on time. They also apparently have the original iron throne that HBO gave to them. Easy to get a picture sitting on it. Highly recommend visiting.

Totally worth combining your visit to old town!
Great place to escape the busy old town of Dubrovnik. About 15 min boat ride that cost 27e for a round trip per person at the pier. Hiking trails around the island so you can easily spend 5-6 hours here if you want. There is an unique “dead sea” on the island where you are even experiencing waves from the ocean water that flows through the caves there.

Great but a bit of a hike
Very good value for money if you book at the harbour. No need for a guide. Hubby enjoyed the Game of Thrones references and had a phot on the throne. Struggled with the hilly stony walk, but if you're fairly fit - I'm 62 and was ok, but it can be difficult if you're out of condition or elderly

    Wonderful day trip!
We took the boat from Dubrovnik harbour. The island is close by. There is a wonderful open-air café for drinks, snacks, lunches. Really good, though it looks very rustic. One can then walk around the island (very dry) and visit the small Game of Thrones exhibition, or just find a cove to swim. We found one near a shower, and it was just fabulous! The boats run every half an hour, so it was easy to return when we were ready. Highly recommended. Use your “Visit Dubrovnik” card, and you get a discount on the boat fare.

Great spot away from crowds in Dubrovnik
A wonderful spot to spend a few hours away from the crowds of Dubrovnik. A 10 minute ferry ride to this lovely oasis with plenty to do. Swim in the Dead Sea, visit the Monastery and sit in the real Iron Throne from the Game of Thrones, explore the botanical gardens, climb the rock formations or take a hike to Fort Royal for hilltop views. Take a break to enjoy lunch or a beverage at one of the outdoor restaurants on the island as you watch the peacocks roam. A delightful spot worth exploring.

    Relax and chill
Very easy quick and pleasant trip. Good directions around the island. Monastery is pleasant and the history, as is the fort( a bit of a climb, but worth it) . A nice olive Grove to walk in . Take your swimmers as the dead sea is a lovely place to take a dip. About 100mtrs before this next to the toilets there are outdoor changing rooms. Lots of very friendly peacocks. I would give yourself 3 hours at least for a leisurely visit

    Beautiful and quiet nature
Very simple, short, and enjoyable journey. Detailed maps of the island. The fort (a little bit of a climb, but worth it) and the monastery both have interesting histories. a lovely olive grove to stroll around. Bring your swimming gear; the dead sea is a beautiful spot to swim. There are outdoor changing rooms just a hundred metres away, near to the restrooms. numerous, incredibly amiable peacocks. For a leisurely visit, I recommend giving yourself at least three hours.

A must visit when in Dubrovnik!
A short boat ride from Old Town, this place should definitely be on your bucket list. Steeped with history, and stories of curses, this island is so interesting. We didn't realise it would be overun with rabbits and peacocks! If you climb to the top of the island you will be rewarded with stunning views of the adriatic. If you are a game of thrones fan you will love it even more as you can sit on the iron throne and visit some filming locations. There is also a really great restaurant on the island which I can't remember the name of but it does amazing pizza.

We took the ferry to the island (about 10 mins) and spent about 2 hours wandering around the island. Lots of beautiful views, nature and overall very peaceful!

There is a cafe which sells small bites and drinks - it looked overpriced for what it was so I would recommend either eating before/after your visit the island or better yet, bring a picnic to have on the island.

Also has free toilets near the cafe.

Lokrum is only a 10 minute boat ride from Dubrovnik, very easy to get the boat and tickets were reasonably priced. The island itself is a nice break from the busy town. There are walks round the island, beach areas and some interesting museum exhibitions- both about Lokrum and Game of Thrones. There are a couple of restaurants which looked nice. You could easily spend half the day here. There is a walk round the island with lovely views of the old town, it took us around an hour at a leisurely pace.

It takes only 10 minutes to reach small and lush Lokrum island from the Old Port. The boats run every half an hour and are quite heavily charged, in June the trip cost 100 kunas doubling in July to 200 kuna. Lokrum is a nature reserve, so picking up anything like laurel is forbidden, you can do that on Dubrovnik shores. A restaurant by the Monastery ruins serves excellent lunch and a cafeteria by the Dead Sea is most relaxing after swimming. There are rock boulders from which you can descend to deep water by metal ladders.

We wanted to visit this island whilst in Dubrovnik.

When we went to the port to enquire about prices we went to the glass bottom boat stand as that was the only one we could see that went to that island. We were told by the lady there that it would cost money for the boat and then a further 150 kuna for entrance to the botanical gardens, plus we had to decide how many hours we wanted to stay beforehand as because of Covid the seats on the boat were limited. For us it seemed quite expensive £100 for a few hours and being on a time limit with a return boat we decided against it.

However on our travels we met the owner of an excursion company and he said there is a government run boat which is the big one right past all of the people selling over priced tickets to the islands. He said there is no fee to get on the island. The island is a UNESCO site so the money you pay on the government boat goes towards preserving the island, but it is a fraction of the cost of the other boats.

The island is beautiful and it’s so worth a visit. There are peacocks roaming the island and we were lucky enough to see a peacock with her babies. There is an old fort on the island which was a bit of a climb but so worth it for the views over to Dubrovnik. The trees in the botanical gardens and on the island provide a welcome shade from the sunshine. There is a bit on the island at the furthest point where you can jump in to the sea. It was so beautiful and very peaceful. The water was so clear you could see lots of fishes. We walked round the whole island and saw all of the points on the map. So worth a visit if you have time on your travels. Highly recommend for a nice break from the hustle and bustle of the city.

A nice daytrip to be done from Dubrovnik, there are different things to see on the island such as the fort with nice views (however, very rocky and steep path, for me it was exhausting and stressing, they could build a better path), the salt lake (I swam there), the gardens with the peacocks and general the rocky shores as beaches which are also a nice motive for pictures. It is very calm and wild as no one is living there. I would advice it only for those seeking peace and who know how to appreciate calm places. Otherwise you will feel like you paid too much for less, because 200 kuna is not so cheap.

We took a boat from the harbour to Lokrum Island Nature Reserve which was an enjoyable trip and took about 15 minutes. They run every half an hour to and fro so you could choose how long you wanted to stay on the island. We visited the monastery and botanical gardens and if you are up for a climb you can see lovely views of Dubrovnik from Fort Royal, There is a small salt lake you can swim in if you want to cool off. Peacocks wander around the island and we were lucky to see them with their youngsters. We had heard of rabbits running around too but we didn't actually see any. Probably sheltering from the heat.A nice half day trip well worth doing.

This island is well worth a visit! We recommend getting the official “skala” boat as that includes your entry to the island. Some of the other boats in the port were charging a cheaper initial price for the journey but you then had to pay your entrance fee separately.

There is a map when you get off the boat that shows you all of the trails on the island and it is very easy to navigate. We really enjoyed seeing the wild peacocks!

We did a lot of research on the islands as there is so many to choose from but so glad we picked this one.
Only 15mins from Dubrovnik and very reasonably priced, the tickets can be bought at the port and include entrance to the island and the return boat journey.

The island is beautiful and very quiet compared to busy Dubrovnik. So much to do if you walked around the place, well worth the short climb to the fort on top as the views are beautiful over the island and Dubrovnik.
Lots of rabbits and peacocks wandering around, couple of cafes for a snack or drinks but no shops as such.
Rocky area for sunbathing/ swimming in the sea. There is also an amazing huge lagoon which is not to be missed. Big enough to swim in and calmer than the sea and theres also a cave.

We had a brilliant afternoon would definitely recommend

Lokrum is a beautiful island that you can go to but you don't have to. You will not miss anything. There is a myth surrounding the island that says Lokrum is a haunted island. Google it. "Don't take a peacock's feather from the island, or a stone in a shoe, or a leaf from a branch. Everything on the island belongs to the island." You can reach Lokrum by ferry from the old port, the ride takes 10 minutes. The last ferry from the island departs at 7 p.m. After 7 pm, no one stays on the island. The ticket is quite expensive. If you are a fan of the Games of Thrones series, there is an iron throne on the island

Lokrum was a wonderful change of scenery compared to old town. I recommend to pack light as there are no lockers, wear decent walking shoes if you plan to explore the whole island as the nature paths are uneven and rocky, and bring your own drinks & food as they are overpriced on the island. For GOT fans, the original iron throne is located in a small GOT exhibit in the Monastery. As a last tip, definitely climb up the fort for beautiful views!
