The Cathedral of Saint Dominus was built as a masoleum for Diocletian, the last famous persecutor of the Christians. He was interred here in AD 311. In the 5th century the Christians got even -- destroying the emperor's sarcophagus and converting his tomb into a...More

One of the main areas of the Diocletian Palace. Piazza or square with street entertainment. Too successful as the crowd was large and pushy.

I believe this page refers specifically to the square outside the palace, though lots of reviews seem to be about the palace in general or the cathedral. It's a beautiful square, surrounded by Roman and Medieval architecture. You really feel immersed in the history of...More

If you have the time and few coins to spare, please do walk up to the top. You will love the view. It is pretty much the center piece of the old town and you can see the tower from afar.

Great views of the old town from the top. Climbing the stairs is not for those afraid of heights or having difficulties climbing stairs.

Part of the ancient old town, all of which is a delightful area to visit. Loads of shops bars restaurants, and lots to see and photograph. A very different part of Split and easy to find at the rear of the sea front.
