This area served as the Emperor's Courtyard, an open area with columns adorning the outside, statues dotting the inner part and surrounded by the palace, three temples and the mausoleum. It is much changed today, the Cathedral of St. Domnius now occupies the site of...More

Some of the areas reminded me of Greece with the pillars and architecture. People sitting around on the steps people watching or just relaxing. I wish I could remember half of the history that was told about this place but I can’t.

We were only in Split for one night, so we were only able to visit the old town once (in the evening). There was live music playing and couples were dancing in the square and it was a magical experience! The buildings are lit up...More

The Peristyle of the Diocletian Palace complex is the central hub of the visit to both the palace area as well as the subsequently built church and crypts. Area is used for evening concerts as well

This is great place to rest after conquering the bell tower and its steps. Few roman army giys wandering round to get pictures taken with them.

Still beautifully preserved, it's wonderful to recall the history and also very atmospheric at night when there is usually live music. At noon there is a recreation of Diocletian saluting his adoring public.

I have to agree with the last reviewer, we were wandering the Old Town, when we discovered this wonder. It was beautifully lit, lots of people sitting around having a drink and there was live music playing. Just magical - a must visit.

We ended almost every one of our 5 nights here. It's such a great place to have a drink and enjoy the surroundings. There was live music every night which made it even that much more enjoyable. Do not miss out.
