Info at In Your Pocket is a good summary. Museum website is Flash-enabled - doesn't appear to have any English pagesWe visited August 2009.Fascinating museum. 10 kn admission included an excellent guided tour, our guide spoke good English. Picked up a lot of Croatian history during our visit. Torpedo display particularly interesting - torpedoes were invented by a UK-Italian partnership in Rijeka (Google Whitehead-Luppis). Strongly recommended.

A very quiet day, plenty to see and a wide selection on display. Not much translated to English but you could pay more for that. The boat outside that can be climbed on would satisfy kids (and two 25 year olds). 15kuna a suitable price for the exhibition.

This is a must for anyone interested in maritime development but if, like us, you are only mildly interested it can still be rewarding. The museum has two parts. Rooms 2 to 5 are naval history mostly from about 1900 onwards culminating in a room dedicated to the torpedo which was invented by a Croat officer of the Austro-Hungarian navy... More

The museum is an easy walk from the town. The exhibits are really remarkable - lots of ordinary artifacts from Croatia's maritime history. There is also a lot of lovely artwork which is maritime themed. The grounds are lovely, with some outdoor exhibits and a stunning view across the rooftops towards the sea. For a few Kuna it is well... More

This museum is interesting and you can see a lot of stuff. It is a small place but worth visiting. Would recommend to everyone that loves maritime stuff.

It is hard to find this place - there are no street signs to it from the centre of Split so what should be a 5 to 10 minute walk became a 20 minute maze constantly having to ask people where it is. Even once inside the old fortress, it's easy to confuse the museum entrance with the entrance to... More

It took us a little while to find the museum from Split harbour. Once we found it we were greeted warmly by the lady on reception who told us about the 2 sections of the museum and the photo exhibit that was on. You could pay extra for an English tour but we decided against this. Most of the exhibits... More

The Croatian Maritime Museum is a very beautiful small museum located in the Fortress Gripe, very near the Academy of Arts. For a very, very cheap ticket (2 EUR) you can enjoy a nice time travel. In the museum you can see lots of ship models, from the time of the Roman Empire, the Austrian-Hungatian Monarchy, Yugoslavia, Croatia.... and, what... More

I had a little problem finding this museum hidden somewhere in the Gripe fortress (behind the Diocletian palace). The entrance to the museum was very interesting; it was like going onto a ship. In the museum you could see a lot of vessels, maritime tools, miniatures of ships. As a curiosity they also had the three letters of a REX... More

Free parking in Split, near downtown, that's the reason i got there at the first place. Locals instructed me to go find it, but once i got there, was really impressed to see its actually a fortress, with thick walls and napoleonic cannons around!! Shame its a parking lot... Area surrounding the museum is nice, pines provide shade for resting... More

Split is on the coast with a palace along the sea. This museum has information about protecting the city and commerce. You get a better understanding of the area from this place. Worth the visit!!
