Even though I had not heard of this great artist before visiting Croatia, I really enjoyed seeing his works. I am not a trained visual artist myself, nor a religious scholar, but I can feel that he put much humanity into the figures he created,...More

Even though we are from Chicago, we did not really know Mestrovic's work, but we will never forget it. Compare his talent to Rodin, as many have. The museum, in Mestrovic's former home, contains his sculptures inside and in the garden. We were mesmerized by...More

This beautiful historic villa with lovely gardens overlooking the sea has been turned into a museum holding impressive works by Ivan Mestrovic. I wasn't familiar with his work but anyone from Chicago will be familiar with his iconic statues at Grant Park: "The Spearman" and...More

Ivan Mestrovic is renowned by Croatians, but I knew nothing about him before heading to Croatia myself. I'm so glad we took the time to visit the gallery, housed in his former villa. The grounds themselves are beautiful, with a sculpture garden outside and breathtaking...More

Set in a wonderful villa , built on Ivan Mestrovics own design , his masterpieces are in a perfect setting. We would not believe that we were the only tourists when we visited in October. The statues in the garden are superb, with a setting...More

We visited the Atelier Mestrovic in Zagreb and loved it. The Mestrovic Gallery in Split is as good. Mestrovic must have been enormously prolific as we see so many examples of his work. We love his style and feel he is in the company of...More

The Gallery was nice, but smaller than anticipated. We should have done more research. Not knowing much about Ivan Mestrovic, we went off a tourist guide and while enjoyable, simply wasnt what we expected. Nice though.

Do make an effort and visit this spectacular space from the early years of the past century. Also visit Mestrovic Kastelet just few minutes away.

So here's all this wonderful sculpture displayed with lots of space and plenty of filtered natural light--with only very brief descriptions and apparently just one guard for the entire building. We were there on a Saturday afternoon, and we had the place practically to ourselves....More

The pieces of art are stunning. Too bad a few were touring France. Very talented in many mediums. Make sure to go to the church down the way too. The art really moves your emotions.
