Overview
More
Galerija Meštrović houses the masterpieces of Ivan Meštrović carved in marble, bronze and wood. The house was built based on Meštrović's design (1931 - 1939), and was intended to be his family summer residence, working studio and exhibition space. It is surrounded by a Mediterranean garden which, with its bronze sculptures and the view of the sea and of central Dalmatian islands makes a unique example of landscape architecture.

We had never heard of Mestrovic before visiting Split. But we were very impressed with his sculptures. My two young children were very interested in learning more and spent a lot of time roaming around the large sculpted grounds drawing and taking everything in.

I think I had never heard of Ivan Mestrovic before preparing for the trip to Split. What a delight and surprise to discover a sculptor as powerful as Rodin! You will see his "Grigur Ninsky" just outside the north gate of Diocletian's palace. The Galerija...More

A 20+ minute walk from the palace, but the collection of Mestrovic's works makes a great impression. Marble, bronze, wood: he was versatile and prolific, and very talented. Admission to the gallery also gets you into the chapel down the road, with its large wood-panel...More

If only for the breathtaking views from the entrance of the Galleria. Spectacular! The art inside is very nice as well!

Ivan Mestrovic, Croatia’s greatest sculptor, worked prolifically for over 60 years, mainly producing powerful studies of the human figure in stone. Sometimes he worked on sculptures in wood, drawings, paintings or architecture. His last decades were in the USA. The Ivan Mestrovic Gallery in Split...More

I didn't know a lot about Mestrovic to be honest. I went there and lost it. Everything is lovely, the view is from a movie and it's not that crowded.

We have been visiting all the Mestrovic sculptures that we can find in Croatia. We visited his atelier and his 'well of life' sculpture in Zagreb and this gallery in Split is equally amazing. You can also visit his private church with more of his...More

So glad we visited this gallery. It is an easy walk from the old town area and well worth seeing. The building itself is as beautiful as the art.
