Largely blocked off due to construction

In November 2016, most of the stairs were blocked off due to construction. It was still possible to go up and down, but they weren't well lit.

The stairs were under renovation, nothing to see during this time. Hopefully it will get better until next season.

Slightly nervous about what the city authorities might do to the Potemkin steps. You need to see the film to understand why this matters. There's some sympathetic restoration going on in other parts of town, so fingers crossed...

Be aware that the top few flights of steps are now boarded off during renovation by unsightly corrugated sheets so the full sweep of the staircase is not possible to view.

It's a giant stairway in Odessa, Ukraine. The stairs are considered a formal entrance into the city from the direction of the sea and are the best known symbol of Odessa. Dukes monument is another famous monument by stairs You can see beautiful Hotel Odessa as a scenic view

Visiting Potemkin Steps was a long wish, in real the stairs were less spectaculair because of being renovated. Thats also a good thing, in Odessa are much beautiful buildings dilapidated and renovation is necessary. this is also the charm of this city together with the vibrant street life.

This is probably the most iconic places in Odessa. If you are a tourist and you forget to see it - you have not been in Odessa at all.

Bit of an anti-climax really - they are just steps although maybe I missed something. There are some interesting looking ruins off to one side though.
