Odessa is the coastal city and port city, and here it is mostly spoken in Russian. The opera house is the first thing that makes this city beautiful. However, since we are there in the winter, I can say that it is very stylish in...More
Go to the opera (or as in my case ballet) when you find yourself in Odesa during season! It’s quite the experience. Go for the magnificent building built in a bygone age for and with the resources of an aristocracy that doesn’t exist anymore. Go...More
Visited here in 1990 and caught AIDA, complete with elephants on stage - the works! An amazing experience, still warmly remembered all these years later. Get your photo taken at the "Honeymoon" tree, near the entrance to the opera House.
our tour guide Mr. Pavlo was both very knowledgeable and obviously had great admiration for the building he was telling us about and the city it was in. I have not yet seen a performance but after this tour I hope to visit Odesa again...More

How wrong of me!!!! It was a spectacular event that had me focused for...More
Bought tickets easily on line in advance. Beautiful theater that replaced the original opera house that burned down. Sat in first row of second tier center box. Great view. Even if you aren't interested in ballet/opera, go to a show here

Some theaters have a policy about this - if you're too late, no admission until the interval. But in Odessa I've seen people arriving when the performance was already under way. Just be nice to the staff and say you had a transport problem or so, and they will let you in. A little tip might help :-)
Hope this helps ...
ps on their website they say they have a dress code, but don't take it too serious - no need to wear a tuxedo or so. Casual smart will do, for gents no tie required.
