Casa Popenoe appeals to the inquiring mind. It prompts us to ask questions about ideas, about passion, about commitment; about history, art, science, beauty, austerity, proportion. What role does each play in human development? In the development of civilization?

A restored, historical "Casa" (~museo) dating back to the 16th century. It features a colonial home designed around a courtyard/patio with many period furnishings, as well as the remains of an apartment home (re)built in the 20th century -- now used for educational purposes. Very knowledgable tour guide and museum director. In small groups (just 4 of us this morning!)... More

A fascinating slice of life as it was for upper class Antiguans 400 years ago. We were fortunate enough to have the museum director Loren guide us and she was a wealth of information. After seeing many local churches, monasteries and convents it was so interesting to see another side of Colonial life in Antigua. Who knew they had hot and... More

A guide from the university takes you through the grounds and explains the history of how it came to be and how Antigua has preserved its colonial flavour due to the man who last restored it.

Location: In the historical part of Antigua, in short walking distance from most parts of the area. Special: Its not on the standard list of tourist attractions in the city which is understood as its relatively expensive but do not save on it. After walking the wonderful streets and alleys of Antigua, you will understand what your feet are walking... More

Don't miss this! A house whose history mirrors the history of the city: colonial through today. A fascinating tour given by a wonderful woman; Lorena was amazing and her enthusiasm for the house was contagious. A highlight of our stay in Antigua.

This is an ancient home, turned into a Museum by one of the best universities in Guatemala, where sometimes events are held. Built in 1700. There is the main home, a big house and some extensions were built through the years, making it a very extensive property. There is also a stable. Lots of art to appreciate. Beautiful furnishings and... More

I had a wonderful, private tour of the house and grounds this afternoon. I sent an email yesterday to arrange it - you need to plan in advance but not much. Really interesting history of the house and its owner, who seems to have been instrumental in making Antigua what it is today. Beautiful courtyards and art in the carefully... More
