Very difficult to find and the road is not maintained, neither are the markers. You have to WANT to see it in order to find it. I WANTED to see it because of my 9th Great Grandfather, Thomas Macy. Once you get there, it is...More

Off Cliff Road, across from the Water Tower at Tupancy Links Trail you will find the old Founders Burial Ground at Maxie Pond. Tiny but significant in that it holds the markers for the original graves of Nantucket's earliest founders dating to the mid-1600's! Coffin,...More

I always love reading headstones. My favorite here was "with Christ, which is better." Short, sweet truth at a difficult time. Prominent Nantucket families are at rest in this very large burial ground. I would have liked more time to wonder around.

My now passed on, Jack Russell Terrier (Shubael) spent his summers here on Nantucket. He was named from an 1800s grave stone. I loved the name SHUBAEL. It is a historical and wonderful, ancient name. The old cemeteries on the island are peaceful, quiet and...More

This cemetery contains the remains of many members of the founding families of Nantucket. There is a marker commemorating the first males to settle here and another for their wives. I came because I am descended from 4 of the families mentioned on the monuments....More

This is a beautiful cemetery. So many of the tombstones are interesting. It's on a pretty road and it's nice to visit if you are nearby.

We explored thes place last week-end, only because I'm a Tristram and Dionis Coffin descendant (11 generations). The Founder's cemetary is just a short distance fro the site of Tristram's homsttead. The monument here was erected in 1881 at the time of the Coffin family...More

This tiny cemetery will never be a top attraction, but is of interest to the very large number of decedents of the founders. It is convenient to town and at the original 1659 settlement location. The Founders Burial Ground is a small plot of land...More
