My husband and I like to travel on cruises, and always cruise from which places are highest on our wish list. This time it was a cruise that had Greenland on its route.
And Nuuk was really special. The same was this beautiful church that we took with us on our tour. We were told that it was raised by a Norwegian/Danish priest named Hans Egede. There was no opportunity for us to enter, but majestically rowed it on a small hill.
We are happy to return to Nuuk and hope to be able to enter the church too.

This picturesque church was closed due to a local wedding. Getting to see the wedding party in traditional dress was a treat. Be sure to climb the hill in front of the church for spectacular views.

Was closed when we went but looked in and just a basic small, cute church. However, the church really shines as a beautiful subject for photos from the hill next to it showing itself and all the colorful houses in Nuuk.

This delightful little wooden church is a Cathedral! It is beautifully sited close to the sea, and looks particularly charming from the cliff top. As we approached we could see that there was a small group of people in the entrance and someone was singing a hymn for them in English. It turned out that an elderly couple were just about to be married in the church, and both their families were fully represented wearing traditional beaded costumes, all in white, with long beaded boots. We stayed for the beginning of the service and later saw the bridal party assemble at the entrance for photographs. The church itself is a simple building and simply decorated with a traditional model of a ship hanging from the ceiling, but seeing it filled for such a happy occasion is an experience we shall never forget.

Was in Nuuk in April and while walking around we saw the church and decided to check it out. Very cute and very Nuuk, if that makes sense. Blended well in the surrounding and it was great to see it.

When you hear the word cathedral, images of majestic soaring arches, marble, buttresses and grandeur come to mind. This cathedral is so quaint, capturing the essence of Greenland. The red wooden panels with the wooden church tower make this a unique cathedral. Inside it consists of white wooden panels, decorated with the local wild flowers. Nothing impressive, but worth a visit.

There aren’t many things to see in Nuuk, but this one should be on the list. Unfortunately when I went there the church was closed (so plan in advance); it still was worth the visit, the building is beautiful as it is the surrounding area. Right next to the church, on top of a hill, there is the Statue of Hans Egede, the founder of Nuuk. The village is very sweet, romantic little houses in yellow, red, green and blue.
There are some stores good for souvenirs.
The city has a strange contrast though, there’s this enchanted cute village and on the side recent buildings and a shopping mall.

I went there a couple of times to try to get inside... But unfortunately it was closed all the time... But I managed to take a look around... Its plain... Nothing out of the ordinary... But its worth going to when in Nuuk... Not that far from the center...

Just returned from NUUK what a pleasant town. We were unable to view the church it was closed. I did hike up to the statue. Beautiful view from up there. September 2019
