Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had very good meals there and environment is very interesting, also for making photos. Service was little slow on that Sunday, though.

This is one of the Ottoman merchant inns of the old bazaar where visiting traders could stable their horses and find food and lodging. It’s a lovely historic building and well-preserved albeit not overly well maintained in terms of presentation. The courtyard currently houses a restaurant in one of the ground floor corners and the first floor lodging rooms are now turned over to an Islamic school for girls. It’s certainly worth stopping by as you wander the old bazaar but there is little on offer other than to take a quick look around.

Turkey and Islamic culture ruled in Skopje for over 600 years, and Kapan Han is a relic of those times. It is just a bit derelict at this time, containing a not so often used restaurant, but the outlines of its former role as a caravanserai are explained by a sign in English as well as clearly visible. Caravanserais are resting places for caravans of merchants with their animals, goods, and crews. From the outside, this appears as a windowless massive stone block, because it was meant to protect the travellers and their goods from robbers. It has 2 floors, each sectioned off into big "rooms" which open onto the central open space, and each "room" would be used by members of a caravan, there being room for more than just one caravan.. (See photo). I have a degree in Islamic Studies, but I learned quite a lot by visiting this place, since caravanserais are found all over the Islamic world on the Asian and European mainlands. With a bit of imagination, I could envision the members of a caravan settling in for the night, cooking their food, feeding their animals, and arranging their goods. Turkey plans to restore this site to its original condition, which would make it a nice attraction for those with an interest in history.
Be prepared to search around for it a bit, for it is rather secluded, and I stumbled across it purely by accident while looking for music venues near the river.

Just to clarify things - there is a restaurant and a night club in the same han with totally different owners, and I'm submitting this review for the night club. It is a club for techno, trance, and hip-hop music, the parties are crazy and the entrance fee and drink prices are one of the most reasonable in whole Skopje. I love this place because of the owner, a giant professional boxer dude that is always present and has zero tolerance for violence and harassing women. Even when I'm drunk to the point where I can't stand on my legs, I feel safe because I know that he is here and he is taking care of things.

One of the greatest things to see in Old Bazaar. This place is often used for exibitions or for organizing night music events.

The word Turkish word "Han" means hostelry or inn. Kapan Han used to be one of the three oldest hostelries in the old bazaar of Skopje (the other to are Suli Han and Kursumli Han). Today it has some restaurants on the ground floor and on the second floor there is a great place for parties called Kapan Han (same as the hostelry). Usually the type of music is different it can be funk, trap and on rare occasions old Macedonian hits. The place for parties usually opens around 12 am, the parties go on until 4 am. The ticket is 150 Macedonian denars (2.43 Euros) from 12 am to 1 am. After 1 am the ticket is 200 denars (3.24 Euros).

This is a very old inn that has served many functions over the years including a bazaar, brothel, inn, and other functions. It's still used as a place where concerts are held.

While in Skopje I wanted to visit the place. And I had to look a lot for it. It is well hidden. I have seen photos of the Kapan Han and wanted to explore it. But once there I was disapointed. A lot. The Kapan Han itself is a peace of art. Beautiful building with unique athmosphere. But it is turned into a trash whole. Half of the place is turned into a restaurant. There were trash and bottles everywhere. Peoples have pissed at one of the entrances... The three starts are for the Skopje authorities who have turned this beautiful building into a trash hole. Its a pitty....

This was the old Inn at Skopje, beautiful reconstruction after the earthquake destroyed the original. You visit this on the Free Tour. Original had a set of scales just outside.
