This fountain is now more of a monument as like all other fountains in Skopje it's never working. It comprises of four Macedonian mothers, three of which are holding their children with the fourth heavily pregnant. The figures are around six foot high and it's a nice sight. However, it would be much nicer if the fountain was working

This is a truly great work of art. I stood and admire every female statue and found that they were so well made and facial expressions so real. It is truly a very good. I was told one is of the mother of Alexander the great. How ironic but above them is the statue of Filip, the father of Alexander.
You can't miss this statue because it's at the entrance to the Old city. A definite must-see.

Fountain of the Mothers of Macedonia is also known as The fountain of Olympias. It is located on the north side of the river and best accessed by crossing 'The Stone Bridge'. It's located a few metres from the impressive statue of Phillip 1 of Macedonia. I was not over impressed by the fountain, which is rather ugly in design, but saved by the 4 figures of women at its base. One of which is pregnant and the other three holding an infant. The other name by which the fountain is known, the Fountain of Olympias, related to the mother of Alexander the Great, whose mother was called Olympias. In which case one could assume that the statues refer to the infant Alexander.

Some say that this would actually picture Alexander the Great's mother: Olympias. If that's true or not, I don't know, but it's nice to see a monument dedicated to mothers. It surprises very well the love between a mother and her child.

I truly loved the architectural design of this really cute fountain. It is at the entrance of the old town, and looks really nice at sunset!

A remarkable, eye appealing, photo taking fountain dedicated to the mothers of Macedonia between the Stone Bridge and Old Bazaar. It cannot be missed because of its size and it just grabs your attention.

Right after crossing the Stone Bridge. It was a pity that there was no water, but this is something normal in winter.

There are many fountains and heroic status on these center squares, and this one was nice focusing on Mother's and small children--even a pregnant woman.

You won't fail to notice it as you come off the Stone Bridge on your way to the Old Bazaar. Its statues are already attaining that streaky blue-green-verdigris-grey look that makes for great pictures.
