- jordanellie41Longridge, United Kingdom1,088 contributionsSIMPLE BUT SYMBOLIC BRIDGEThis bridge is very symbolic in Skopje and is made up of very large breeze block type stone with numerous arches underneath that spread across the river. It lights up at night giving off a yellowish colour to the bridge but as the bridge of art or the eye bridge, there's nothing on it. It's a wonderful sight nevertheless. Just in front of it on top of the river flow is a small quaint statue of a diver along with the feet of another pertruding from the water as if they had just dived inVisited November 2023Travelled soloWritten 2 December 2023

This well-preserved structure offers a pleasant walkway with nice views of the river and surrounding areas. While visually appealing and historically significant, it's a straightforward attraction without additional features or activities. A quick visit is enough to appreciate its simple beauty, making it a solid but not extraordinary stop on a Skopje tour.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 July 2024

This is an old pedestrian bridge build on 10 arches that span across the Vardar river connecting Square Macedonia and the Old Bazaar area. It is very popular with pedestrians and joined by three adjacent bridges which are not as heavily travelled. Another way to enjoy the bridge is to explore the city in the path along the river that goes under the bridge. The bridge has a fascinating history as it was built between 1451 and 1469 dating back to the Ottoman period and still has that old bridge appearance. Interesting fact is that the bridge is considered a symbol of Skopje and is the main element of the coat of arms of the city. It is quite symbolic in Skopje and I recommend finding time to explore this old piece of local history.

The bridge doesn't have some eccentric design, nor is it flashy. It stiod the test of time, especially after the 1963 earthquake. It also connects to the old side of town of Skopje, and offers great views of the city center!

The elegant arched stone bridge crossing the Vardar river in Skopje links the main city with the older part where the Old Bazaar is located. Being pedestianised it is always popular with locals and tourists alike. Unfortunately beggers have also taken over at the city end and can be an unwelcome sight.

Although possibly 'under-decorated' the old Stone Bridge, spanning the Vardar River, is still very elegant. It offers some wonderful photographic opportunities of itself, the river and the surrounding, impressive buildings along the river banks.
The Bridge connects Macedonia Square to the Old Bazaar area, offering a lovely walk from one to the other. While the Bridge can be crowded, we were lucky enough to be there on a weekend, when locals weren't, so it wasn't too busy. I've also read reviews critical of the amount of graffiti on the Bridge. Yes, there is some, but again, perhaps we were lucky and there wasn't anywhere near the amount suggested. Perhaps it is cleaned reasonably regularly

This stone bridge is one of the greatest attractions of Skopje. It is several centuries old and connects the main square with the old bazaar. The centre of Skopje has changed completely in recent decades, only the old bridge has remained the same. There are many buffets nearby where you can enjoy a drink with a view of the old bridge.

The oldest bridge that binds old and new together and which is therefore natural to cross several times. A lot of people and life both on and around the bridge. Musicians, stalls and various sales of corn and other things.
