Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A reasonable level of fitness is required to get in and then again get out of the Grotto but it is the best place for a cooling dip on your way back from jungle trekking.

Crystal clear sea water pond in a cave. Very private and secluded. There is a little climb into the water, a large cord is attached to climb back out of it. A must see on the island

The Grotto is one of the more easily accessible attractions on Christmas Island and a must see. Wear your reef walking booties to climb down the rocks and have a swim - the water is lovely. There is a rope to help you climb out again.

The Grotto is small but beautiful. The 200 meter walk to this place could be tricky during the red crab migration time. Be sure to wear footwear. The crystal clear water is simply mind-blowing. Make sure the water is claim if you want to go down to the water. A Must See!

This is a MUST DO on CI. It’s not hard to get to a little tricky getting in & out but great experience. Once again make sure to wear shoes. Reef shoes to do everything on CI is the best idea unless you’re planning on throwing an old pair of sneakers out afterwards.
It’s a mix of fresh water & sea water. Very cold but very refreshing.

A visit to the Grotto is a must when visiting Christmas Island.

Access to the Grotto is via a short walk through the forest, and whilst no parking is available, you can park on the side of the road.

The water is not too deep, only about a metre or so when I was there today, and there’s a rope you can use to climb up and down the rocks surrounding the Grotto to get into the water.

There are red crabs hanging around the Grotto and the rope access however seem harmless.

Must visit for a quick photo and swim.

not too far to walk but a beautiful surprise when you get there
make sure you only go on low tide otherwise the sea is too rough
you will also see heaps of crabs on your way there

It is said that the sound of the sea coming into the cavern is the sound of a dragon! Worth a visit if only for a look. Steep to get in and out especially at low tide. Could be romantic after dark with candles. Plenty of red crabs running around.

only about 100m off the road, The Grotto is a wonderful natural marvel. The Track to the Grotto provides lots of Red Crab Photo opportunities and the clear water in the Grotto is inviting for those wanting a dip. It can be a bit steep to get down so be careful and use the rope provided. Overall a must visit whether you are swimming or not.
