- Chris G6 contributionsWe would highly recommend this tour!! Our tour guide, Claire was fabulous! My husband and I visited The Naval Academy and thoroughly enjoyed our informative tour with Claire! She was extremely knowledgeable and informative. She was patient with any questions people may have had and very friendly. She took her time with our tour and encouraged taking as many photos as you liked. This is a must to do when visiting Annapolis!Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 September 2023
- Gina CMullica Hill, New Jersey26 contributionsWonderful visit - Worth it!We booked a 1-1/2 hour tour and our female guide (her name was Rebecca I think?) was soo soo knowledgeable. Be prepared to walk alot & to include a few stairs. No problem. So much history and the Captains Row included seeing the outside of homes built in 1905 all with beautiful blue and white awnings. so Cool! I recommend booking your tour at 11AM. This allowed us the ability to see 'Live' the Noon Naval lunch formation to include close to 4,000! mid-shipmen all meeting together in formation before their half hour lunch. This is a tradition started to keep track of midshipmen and is an evolution of how troops assembled for roll call during the Civil war. Soo very impressive! WOW! this was a great tour. At the end of our tour, we made our way separately to the crypt of John Paul Jones. Also, on our own, we visited the Naval Academy Museum. Wonderful treasures and worth the visit.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 September 2023
- GoingonroadThe Cincinnati Region48 contributionsGreat tour of the Naval AcademyTook some time during a recent trip to tour the Naval Academy. It was great to see the facility, our future generation as they prepare for their service to our country and learn about the traditions that are an integral part of the Naval Academy. Recommend the walking tour to anyone.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 September 2023
- JLeisMom94 contributionsAbsolutely gorgeous, if you can find a parking spotStunning! My daughter is active duty at the Air Force Academy, so we were able to get on base and walk around. Architecture is amazing! We were there at dusk and the shadows played with all the unique features - lions, dolphins, sprites and even the prow of a fictional boat come out of the granite rooflines. So beautiful! A word of caution - it literally took us OVER AND HOUR to find a parking space on campus. If you are are able to park in Annapolis at the garages and walk on (through Gate 1) do so.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 24 October 2023
- Tnsalkeld36 contributionsDon’t miss the homes on “Captain’s Row”Touring a naval academy would not usually be my first choice to do, but I was pleasantly surprised how beautiful it was. I like all the things mentioned in previous reviews. But I was especially enamored with the handful of homes on the “captains row”. The architecture was beautiful and all the neat details like the house numbers on the ball lights in the center of each porch. It looked like a movie set. Don’t miss it on your tour!!!Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 9 June 2024
- Jill S2 contributionsNaval academy tourWe enjoyed the Naval Academy. We took the 90 minute walking tour which was very informative. We also happened to be there during graduation week so we saw the Blue Angels perform! Annapolis is a great vacation!Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 June 2024
- Carol Ann JGermantown, New York3,040 contributionsAnnapolis... is the Naval AcademyThe U.S. Naval Academy should be on everyone's list when visiting the Annapolis area. We took a 10:30 tour and were so glad we did. One may purchase tickets on line; however, our group of 8 was easily accommodated on a Saturday morning. I recommend watching the video before your tour for some background information and to learn about the rigorous program at the academy. Our guide was interesting and a wealth of knowledge. The campus is beautiful and the granite buildings are well kept inside and out. The chapel is stunning, and the lovely grounds are immaculate.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 11 June 2024
- MillDawn89Flower Mound, Texas78 contributionsGreat Guided Walking TourWe loved exploring the Naval Academy. We reserved a walking tour through the visitors center on campus. It was a nice, very informative tour. Note that if you do not have a military ID or a handicap placard you will not be able to park on campus. Street parking is minimal area and you have to pay by app. We had lunch on campus at The Alley on campus and it was delicious and a lovely place to eat.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 July 2024
- HLOFlorida54 contributionsGreat afternoon to exploreBetter than we anticipated! We walked downtown area to the gate and went through security. There is a museum and gift shop right after security. We then walked around the campus the best we could around rain downpours. It was exciting to see cadets doing their thing. We got to see some of the football team doing warmups on a field. Just a real American experience and proud they serve our country. Our 16 yo daughter was with us and we talked about endless opportunities people can have by joining the Navy.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 31 July 2024

Was amazing to see what these midshipmen go through academically and athletically. We had the best tour guide in Madeline. She was personable, informative and vert engaging. After the tour the second floor of the museum with the plethora of hand crafted ship models is a must. Our group visiting Annapolis felt this was the highlight of the weekend.

I am a disabled army veteran with 41 years service & I was wearing a cap identifying me as the executive officer of 2-17 FA. A job I had when I was on active duty 27 years ago when I visited. All I had to do to enter the place was show my retired military ID card. I was told "You are our honored guest Major" & I had to do nothing more to enter. I was there on graduation weekend & all of the middies had on their dress uniforms. I visited Memorial Hall, the Chapel, the Crypt of John Paul Jones & the museum while I was there. I felt honored to be here. There is a small parking lot outside the visitor center that has about 4 spaces designated free 2 hour visitor parking. If you plan on being there longer than that I would have someone drop you off & pick you up at the visitor center or find paid parking in the area.

I visited the US Naval Academy in August 2021. I had visited the US Naval Academy in August 2017 but I got to see more things and stay longer this time. The first challenge is finding a parking place. I got lucky and found a parking place in the center of town. I walked about 20 minutes to get to the US Naval Academy. I passed through security which was tight. My first stop was the visitors center which also has a beautiful view of Annapolis Harbor and a nice gift shop. I watched a 13 minute film on the US Naval Academy. It was a hot and humid day so the air conditioning in the visitors center was very much appreciated. My next stop was the Chapel. I was not able to go inside in August 2017 but this time I was able to enter. The altar, organ and dome are very beautiful. I checked my photos from 2017 and it seems that they have replaced the dome. I also visited the crypt and the tomb of John Paul Jones. I walked around a little and took photos of a gazebo and some monuments. After having a coffee at the 1845 Cafe across from the museum, I visited the US Naval Museum. The first floor covers the history of the US navy through various wars. The second floor has many different models of ships - mostly from the 1700s. I learned that one can visit the grave of John McCain but due to the heat I decided to leave that to next time. It is a long walk from the museum to the cemetery. I returned to the visitors center and the view of Annapolis Harbor to cool off. I highly recommend a visit to the US Naval Academy and I spent around three hours here. Maybe next time I will take a guided tour.

It is a pleasure to see all these bright young men and women who serve their country. When we asked for directions, they were very helpful. We ate at The Alley restaurant which is beautiful (and handicap accessible by elevator on request. Food and service were excellent. Hours are very limited.

We visited Naval Academy with Rosa and had a great time! We liked her tour a lot and learnt many interesting facts about the Academy. We recommend guided tours, because you will miss a lot if you just walk on you own. Thank you Rosa for this wonderful experience!

It’s worth a visit to US Naval Academy. We had an impressive tour of the entire campus. Our tour guide, Louise, she was knowledge and friendly. We have a greater appreciation of the intense training required for our military leaders.

Our 13 year old son attended the youth leadership program and I was so happy with how much he loved it! He talked about it for the rest of the day, told us all about everything he had learned, the tour he had taken, and the leadership group activities! He raved about the folks who ran it, the Navy, and the Academy. As a parent, with a kid heading into high school in the next year, we are already thinking about how to prepare him for the college search and application process. When he left this program at the USNA he was talking about the things he learned that he needed to do to get into whichever programs he chooses to apply to and how much he wanted to do them. He came away motivated and excited and thanked us several times for bringing him. What a boost for our whole family! Thank you USNA!!!❤️🇺🇸

I will be visiting in May. What times can I see the formations and if it is graduation am I able to go on campus and do a tour? Are there gradual activities that are open to the public?

On the football game day when the brigade of Midshipmen march to the stadium from campus, will there be some road closures to the public/cars? When and how long? I read somewhere that they start marching one hour prior to the kickoff time.

May I see the Academy and all it offers to visitors without an official tour? Ty for an answer. Also, what time do I have to leave the grounds?

How long does it take to walk to John McCain's grave from the Visitor Center?
Written 20 February 2020
Never times it but it is a great walk through the Yard. About 10 minutes, depending on how fast you walk. But there's a lot to see in between!

Can I buy walking tour tickets online? If so where do I go? If not where can I get them-the museum? Thanks!

My son went to Summer Seminar in June and we did a parent tour. About 90 minutes but, spent 2 more hours on our own and didn't see all. It is an awesome place. The buildings are first class! Go to the cemetery to see McCain's grave and the Chapel is a must see!,
