You need to go in for at least a second to see the Golden Alter, the only gold Henry Morgan didn't take.

This church from colonial times has a gold plated altar. It is an example of the Spanish influence in the colonies of the Americas. The walk around old Panama City is an wonderful experience.

This church has an altar covered with gold leaf. There are "fairy" tales regarding this altar and the pirate Captain Morgan. You can read about them within the church and then decide for yourself.

Very impressive especially for such a smaller church! The small size makes it even more appealing to me. With the inspiration it's well worth a visit .

I went here on a walking tour of Old Panama with a bus group from Decameron Resort. This Church is lovely. The story of the pirates & disguising the gold was interesting.

I'm not a church person, however, this is a must see for the gold, as well as the history of the church.

Lots of construction around the church (preparing for the Pope's visit in 2 years) but the altar of gold is the attraction. However the story of the priest and the pirate (not going to spoil it) is what legends are made of.

I don't know how you could visit Casco Viejo and not visit this church. The story is compelling and the church is welcoming. 25cents for a votive. How can you not?
