Arsenalna metro is, of course, famous for being the deepest metro station in Europe or maybe the world. It takes a full five minutes to descend, or ascend, the escalators.
But the latest news is that the whole square around the station building has been spruced up. New fountains have been installed (and damaged the day after opening by a delivery truck carrying - bottled water).
The old military buildings, which were disused and needed substantial repairs, have been converted into a popular ribs restaurant, and a new branch of McDonald's has opened.
Arsenalna, with the other restored buildings across the street, including the Kyiv Food Market, has/will become a new gastonomic destination for Kyiv diners.

The deepest metro station in the world. So why not get off and on to try the escalator ride. Keep in mind that when you want to go up and down again you need another ticket.

Arsenalna Station is the deepest metro station in the world, and at one time had the longest escalator in the world (Moscow built a longer one in 2003). This is, however, far and away the largest single elevator I've ever seen, and probably at least twice the length and height of whatever escalator came in number 2. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way solely to see it. Luckily, you can easily find several good reasons to go: the Holodomor Genocide Museum and Pechersk Lavra monastery come immediately to mind. Go for those attractions or other area attractions, and you get to ride up and down the escalator coming and going! In New Orleans we'd call that a "lagniappe," a little something extra thrown in for free; though the Arsenalna escalator is definitely not little. (Arsenalna 1 and Arsenalna 2 photos). p.s. After I completed this review, TA, as usual, asked a few more questions about it: one was "Is this attraction accessible by public transportation?" Say what?!!!

Taking the Metro is an experience almost like Japan. It is nice to see the beautiful subway stations. Once you come out of the Station it is only a few minutes walk to the east to see the Motherland Statue. There are also a lot of cafes near by that offer great food. Nice area to walk and explore.

Or so i'm led to believe. It was great. I made a time-lapse video of the descent and even that takes a while to look back. Worth the trip as its only around 5p to ride the metro system

Now a little about Kyiv:
With 3 easily accessible tube stations Kyiv City is larger than originally expected and taxis are readily available around the city for £5 per trip or £18 from the Airport.

The art work inside some of the Orthodox churches is truly magnificent and the tall bell tower that overlooks the city has its charm.
Friendly people and good value for money, with a breakfast at a nice spot costing around £8 or a meal costing around £10 which includes say a beer or an Orange Juice.
Bars are relaxed throughout the week and the city’s atmosphere really picks up on a Friday and Saturday night.
Plenty of Adult entertainment available if that’s your reason for visiting.

I spent a week in Kyiv and never managed to get around to the Art Museum or down to the football stadium. Many of the museums have interesting artefacts from the 2nd World War and Ukraine’s relationship with the USSR.
Small beach houses by the river and id say in the summer the National Parks would be worth visiting for a day.

I would recommend getting into the Arsenalna Metro Station. It is the deepest station in the world. You will be over 5 minutes in the escalator and there are two of them.

There can be quite a crush entering it at rush hour, but once through the turnstiles it becomes much calmer. The station is very deep, but not richly ornamented, although it is still an interesting experience. This is the most convenient metro station (that we found) to access Pechersk Lavra.

As you probably know, this is the deepest metro in the World, so you're going to go anyway just to say you've been here! It's only a stop from Independence square so not too far to travel to get here. Also, in my opinion it's the best stop for visiting the Lavra caves. Certainly this stop is deep but it's not claustrophobic and the architecture is nice enough to look at.
