The cathedral was built over nine centuries and is a great example of Byzantine and Ukrainian Baroque architecture. The interior contains mosaics and frescoes dating back to the 11th century.

The place is in front of my house here in Kiev and I admire every day the beauty of the church and the amazing tower. I recommend it when it's sunny to see the beautiful golden domes shining. The view from the tower is breathtaking

Saint Sophia has survived through world wars and communist rule, likely in part because it was just too beautiful to demolish. The Cathedral looks splendid from the outside and the inside is filled with historical significance. Take a tour of the cathedral and the guide...More

Worth a visit. To enter the territory (inside yard, which is realy nice) + bell tower = less than 2 euro. You need to climb the bell tower. There is no elevator, but the views to the city are spectacular.

Another beautiful architectural place in Kiev. The day we visited there was a huge display of easter eggs in the square in front on the church (it was the week before Orthodox Easter). Another must see in Kiev.

Well restored. Very ornate as you would expect. Great views of the city. Quite a climb to the top. Lots of icons. Very peaceful park surrounding the cathedral. Public loo in the grounds.

This is a walk back into history, visiting this Church which is now mostly a museum. Important to appreciate the development of Christianity in the Ukraine.
