- Martin13 contributionsLovely spotMust visit place when in Belgrade. Large walking area. Nice panoramic views and spots to make some amazing photos. Even when busy there are spots where you can find some more quiet space.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 2 January 2024

Lots of locals around walking their dogs and following the paths. Lovely place to visit.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 March 2024
- KaltrinaCopenhagen, Denmark44 contributionsBeautifulUnfortunately, we couldn't find the two churches, which were the main reason we wanted to visit the fortress. However, the view from the fortress was so beautiful. There are quite a lot of insects in the air, so it's a place that should be visited outside of the summer season.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 1 April 2024

- Tina L14 contributionsA great day outThis was a great day out in the old town of Belgrade. Plaques everywhere denoting the history of Belgrade and why the castle was imperative to the saving of Belgrade. Great militia museum of tanks, missiles, and other armoured vehicles. Views across the Danube and over to New Belgrade were stunning. The full park is amazing, a great heritage for the city and a great day out for all.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 September 2024
- njcavalierChatham, New Jersey421 contributionsWonderful historic fortress high above BelgradeSitting high above the city, overlooking the confluence of the Sava and Danube Rivers, the Belgrade Fortress is affords visitors amazing views of the rivers and the city below. It is also an historic gem, with its magnificent walls, gates and ramparts. The fortress’s origins date back to ancient times; it was rebuilt by the Emperor Justinian in the early 6th century. It was, of course, rebuilt and expanded as the fortress changed hands many times over the centuries. In the 1500s it was conquered by the Ottoman Turks, in whose hands it remained (except for a short time in the 18th century) until 1867. A reminder of the Turks’ occupation, within the fortress is the tomb of Damad Ali Pasha, the Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire. There’s so much more to see and do here. Suffice it to say that this fortress — free to explore — is absolutely worth a visit during any stay in Belgrade.Visited August 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 26 September 2024

This is an amazing Fort! There is so much area to walk around with nice green grass. There are massive walls that you can sit on and see amazing views such as the confluence of the Sava and Danube Rivers. There are 2 really cool churches that you can check out. There is a military museum which has tanks and other weapons outside that you can walk right up to. At the time we visited, the dinosaur area was closed off but you could still see it through a chain link fence. There are basketball courts, tennis courts and more!

We spent a short time visiting the Belgrade Fortress at Kalemegdan Park. It was still enough to get a feel for the historic significance at this well built fort with the grounds preserving the military weapons and the imposing stature of it's placement at the confluence of the Sava River and the Danube River. Built between the 1st and 18th Centuries, one is taken back in time as you walk the grounds, admiring this impressive landmark to Belgrade. Serbians are proud of this sight and want you to enjoy a visit here to appreciate it's contribution to their history. We did and if you travel all the way to Serbia, please see this sight as a part of Serbia's history.

This fortress is a true historical complex that leaves no one indifferent. From the moment we entered through the massive gates, we were surrounded by an antique atmosphere. One of the main advantages is the stunning view from the fortress walls of the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers. In particular, the sunset from the fortress towers is a sight worth seeing. If you plan to take beautiful photos, be sure to come towards the evening when the sun paints everything golden and pink.
On the territory of the fortress there are cozy corners where you can relax. We found a small cafe serving great coffee and delicious cakes. It's the perfect place to take a break and enjoy the atmosphere.
There are drawbacks, however. In the summer months, the fortress can be crowded with tourists, especially on weekends. This creates some inconvenience as it is difficult to find a private place to rest. I recommend coming early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid crowds and enjoy the silence. If you don't mind more people, you can visit during the day, but be prepared for a lively atmosphere.
In addition, the fortress is quite extensive, and for a comfortable visit you will need comfortable shoes and possibly a map. Although there are signs on site, navigation can be difficult, especially if you want to visit all the interesting places.

The Belgrade Fortress is an important historical building in Belgrade, the main city in Serbia. Inside this fortress, you can see the Military Museum (where you can learn a lot of the history of Serbia), some very beautiful gates, The Victor (one well-known monument in the upper part of the fortress) or some other places. Also, from here, you can see wonderful views of two rivers: Sava and the place, where it joins to Danube.

No matter how many times I visit Belgrade, I have to walk through Kalemegdan.
It’s beauty and views that it offers are amazing.
Not that many activities but just that walk and views will be pleasant and take you away from loud and crowded streets of the city.

The fortress and its surrounding parkland are right in the heart of the city at the confluence of the Danube and Sava rivers. You can check out the military museum, or just stroll around this vantage point to check out the view across the city. Our guide told us about one of the buildings nearby that he used to go to parties at whilst the city was being bombed(!).

We reached this fortress after a short walk across a park. There is no admission to enter, but several museums within it have an entry fee. There are quite a number of military artillery pieces (including tanks) displayed between the outer and inner fortress walls. There are a few maps posted that have some of the highlights marked on them, but the fortress is quite large, and we thought there should be more of them. We wanted to visit the church and chapel that were supposed to be located within the fortress, but discovered that we had to exit the fort and walk down a steep hill and winding path before we finally came upon St Petke’s chapel. There was lots of construction in the area and we could never find a way to reach the church. We would have appreciated some directional signs for the churches or at least some type of detour signs on how to reach them within all the construction.

My wife and I were traveling on a Viking river cruise, and the stop in Belgrade was fortunately very close to anything worth seeing in town. A short bus ride and we were wandering through the park and the fortress. The many century history of the city and the fortress was a lot more interesting than the fortress itself which seems to consist pretty much only of the walls, not a fully developed tourist attraction. As others have noted, there are some nice views of the Sava and Danube Rivers from this elevated site, but definitely not but we would consider a highlight of the trip. Our tour guide did ask us to be conscious of possible pickpockets but we did not seemingly encounter any. There is a large shopping center and pedestrian shopping street nearby, if you need a pharmacy or restrooms, that mall is very convenient. It was proven that Starbucks is ubiquitous.

Beautiful place, it is a whole complex that can be reached on foot from Prince Michael Street. There is both a fortress and a promenade, and a park with attractions is small, inside a park with dinosaurs, a torture museum and a military museum. Very old, the children really liked it, but spoils the impression of the absolute lack of maintenance of the territory, rubbish and graffiti on the stacks of the fortress. Souvenirs only accept cash, no card. The torture museum is damp and there are rats running around, the pictures aren't for kids, there's nothing to do. You can also choose not to pay, but to see a free exhibition outside. You can go down through the fortress to the Danube, you can see the Sava rivers flowing into the Danube.

Massive fortress located on top of a hill right next to the confluence of Sava River with Danube. Obviously, a key strategic place in the country - this is probably why it was founded in the 3rd century BC and defended ever since. It worth visiting mainly for the views over Belgrade and Zemun. The most spectacular sight is the confluence of Danube with Sava River. Cruise ships mooring at the Sava quay and various boats floating on Danube can be spotted from the belvedere point next to Victor monument.
There are some kiosks within the citadel walls from one can buy beer, soft drinks and popcorn.
The fortress is surrounded by a large park with old shady trees and host a military museum, a water well dating back from Roman era and a clock tower among other monuments. Strolling in and around the fortress is a nice way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon in Belgrade. The entrance is free.

Hi, walking is the easiest. In case you can’t walk that distance, taxi is the option. They don’t manage Uber. You can also download FoTaxi.
