    Surprisingly Nice.
I don't know why I say "surprisingly" nice, but I actually mostly enjoyed this museum. I took advantage of the free Sunday admission, as it seems a lot of others did. First thing I noticed is that a lot of people were gathering in the main hall, I guess sort of an assembly or performance space? Wasn't sure what was going on, but around noon they had some live pianists playing music, which I thought was awesome. I didn't sit around to watch it, but the music added a nice atmosphere to the museum and echoed through the galleries, keeping chatter down. They do lay out a bit of a chronological path for you, starting with the ground floor and making your way up to the [third] floor. The path is rudimentarily marked out with decals on the floor. Sure, they lack a lot of 'famous' artwork, but what is art? Some of the work could be just as good as any of the crap that gets talked about time and time again from some of the other European or US museums. I thought some of the work was better, to be honest. But it's Serbian... no room for that in Art History textbooks right? On the other hand, there were some galleries that I blazed through, finding it uninteresting. To each their own, but overall I was impressed and glad I went, as I had been on the fence about it.

Good artefacts and paintings at a very decent price !
Visited this place and paid almost €3 entrance fee . The museum is very top notch with many fine exhibits that highlights the richness and development of Serbian arts, design and day to day commerce . The entrance fee is reasonable as many museums charge expensive rates just to enter. Hence the museum caters to everybody with visually arresting statues, iconoclasts , weapons, clothing . Certainly worth your time visiting !

Visiting family with two young children, we were pleasantly surprised how everything was well organized. On three floors of an impressive building, a tremendous collection of artistic and historical heritage really kept us interested, both children and adults. We will certainly come back to continue exploring!

A wonderful collection of art in a beautiful building. I’ve enjoyed this collection before and have never experienced a problem until recently. My recent visit was quite miserable. Throughout my visit a team of oaf-ish security goons followed me and confronted me on several occasions with the confusing demand to keep my jacket on. The angry, confrontational security team, seemingly comprised of overly-zealous retired government types, followed me around the museum in a team of three, snooping around corners and then cornering me with their demands as they clung to their handheld radios. So, visitors, be prepared for confrontation when you arrive and especially when you get warm and try to take off your jacket.

We like the free price to enter and the coat check made walking around easy. The displays were very professional and the restrooms very clean. The security was very rude and multiple occasions one time yelling at me for looking through a window at some antique furniture. Very strange. One guard touched a painting to show me the honey bees in the painting. Overall nice but stressed.

National Museum (Narodni Musej, in Serbian language) is located in Republic Square (Trg Republike, in Serbian), one of the main places in Belgrade. In this museum, you can learn a lot from the prehistory to nowadays. In fact, it is a museum of the history of Serbs as a nation (not a museum of history of Serbia as a geographic country), so you can see a lot of objects from Serbs in all regions, where they have lived (B&H, Croatia and other Republics of de disappeared Yugoslavia). Really a very interesting museum, where you can find a sumarize of the history.

Favourite Belgrade museum! Would recommend to all - this is THE place to visit if you want to learn about Serbian (and Yugoslav) culture, history, national heritage.. Also, amazing foreign artists' artwork is also exhibited. This is one of those places you enter and don't want to leave for hours. Plus, it's very affordable - ticket prices are symbolic.

The museum is very nicely organized and has a nicely sized collection. 90 minutes to 2 hours is plenty of time to see everything. We appreciated that the descriptions were also in English. The museum’s entrance fee was also very affordable!

Heard great things about this museum and was really excited to see it. We enjoyed the information and art, especially the paintings. HOWEVER, the security team was so rude, impolite and unwelcoming. Upon entering I took off my flannel t-shirt and tied it around my waist, but was told off rudely that I needed to leave it at the coat check. Then, they followed us around the museum, lurking around each corner as if they were ready to point out any insignificant mistake you’d make. 20 minutes before closing, I tried to see one last room and was blocked and told to “leave”. When I questioned why as there were 20 minutes left, they mocked me and became very confrontational. What I can’t understand is why they’ve hired the most unwelcoming people to interact the most with tourists who are just trying to learn about this interesting country and culture. Was going to come back the next day to see more but after that experience, no thank you.

Very nice. I was positively surprised with both quantity and quality of the exhibition. Only the security is a bit weird. I get the rule that you can't take off your jacket inside the museum, that's why you can leave it at the reception, but bothering kids because they don't wear it properly on the shoulders... seems ridiculous

You can't miss the main museum of Belgrade located in the center exactly in Republic square. impressive exterior and large interior with various artifacts from ancient till modern eras.
It gets crowded with schools but its not a problem and worth to take the full ticket including the extra temporary exhibition on the highest floor which this time was art.
