St. Michael's Cathedral is an orthodox religious building located in the center of Belgrade, the main city in Serbia. It is not impressive, really it is not the traditional orthodox building. In fact, it was built in 19th Century in a Neo-Baroque style with a big well tower in the main facade. Nice.

This church has been at this location since the middle of the 19th century, although it replaced an earlier church which was also dedicated to St. Michael. The church is one of the most important in the Serbian Orthodox culture such that it’s known simply as “The Cathedral” and the King Peter I, last king of Yugoslavia also held his coronation here.
The church has been built in Neoclassical style, along with Baroque and Neo-Byzantine-Romanesque elements. The exterior is evidently Neoclassical, although there is Baroque and Byzantine styling in the paintings that cover the facade of the entrance and the pediment above the door. Like most Baroque and Byzantine churches, the walls are lavishly painted with scenes of Jesus. The centrepiece of all the decorations is the Baroque iconostasis, with 14 huge paintings.
The special value of the church is its treasury, in which the relics of Serbian saints emperor Stefan Uroš V, as well as relics of Lazar of Serbia and despot Stefan Štiljanović.
The church is well worth a visit.

This is an impressive Cathedral from the outside and the inside is also not bad. The Dome can be seen from lots of Belgrade including where our river boat was docked.
They are strict on dress code to enter and will supply shoals and small wraps to cover your leg to below your knees.

Important church which also serves as the Cathedral of the city, with the head of the Serbian church across the street from it.

I can not deny that the Cathedral is a beautiful building, and one of the landmarks in Belgrade, but we were left with a bad taste by being asked to pay because we were tourists. The lady ran out and tapped us on the shoulder when we walked in, asking where we were from, and because we were not locals, we were told we had to pay a tourist tax to go inside. We did not, and we left. Visiting a church for prayer should be free, but if they must charge, it should be the same regardless if you are a tourist or from Serbia. Not right.

Free entry. Photography needs to be discreet. This is a functioning church, so please be aware of the worshipers who come and go while you are visiting - I stand to the side if there are people praying and wait for them to leave before I start gawking at the artworks etc ... !!! ...
I can't get enough of the Serbian Orthodox churches in Belgrade - and St Michael's is a real treasure. Easy walk from the Fortress and city centre.
Has an important link to the modern city - built in the early 19th century - King Peter 1 was crowned here in 1904 ...

We wanted to visit the cathedral which looks very interesting. Unfortunately the lady looking after the cathedral is very unfriendly, one has to pay to enter the cathedral (as far as I know, a church is a place of worship and open to everybody without paying). There are many other churches worthwhile visiting where one can enter without paying.
