Commemorating one of Romania’s finest artists.

Classical music is two things in Romania: popular and synonymous with George Enescu. Born in the small village of Liveni, Enescu was a child prodigy and admitted to study at age seven (!) to the Vienna Conservatory. He gave a private concert for Emperor Franz Joseph at age ten, and shuttled between Paris and Romania until the end of WW2, when he settled in the former. His compositions include operas, symphonies, chamber music, and works written exclusively for piano. A museum dedicated to his work is located in the turn-of-the-century art nouveau Cantacuzino Palace. It is small (two rooms) but contains a number of personal artifacts and tells the story of his life in roughly chronological order. His first violin, hand-written manuscripts, and various concert programs share space with medals presented from around the world and, somewhat oddly, a molding of his hands. I spent just under an hour here on my last day in Bucharest. In summary, this was a small, traditional museum about a very important historical figure. I had only peripherally heard of Enescu before traveling to Romania but learned far more from him while there, largely due to this collection. A groundbreaking gallery with electronic exhibits and walk-through experiences? Hardly. A decent, easy to understand collection of authentic artifacts that tells a linear story and leaves one realizing how impressive this musician was? Yes. I’d give it 3.5 stars rounded up to 4. Worth a trip for people with the interest.

Probably one of the most interesting & most beautiful houses (it was a house before a museum) I have ever seen inside & out. His private piano room is so ornate and beautiful it was crazy to think it was just his house when he was alive.

The main building is spectacular and worth seeing but is only occupied in a small area by the museum itself. The rest is rented out to businesses who are hostile to the museum and consequently are not courteous to the visitors. This is a city that is already not tourist friendly. The staff of the other businesses sit on the balconies of this Palatial structure smoking so any pictures you want to take include them. At the back is a small but elegant house containing items belonging to the former occupant. Staff don'r speak English except for one woman who was helpful and some of the other staff are cold and surly.

This is not a museum, just three small rooms, with photos, posters, some relikvias from Enescu. It is a shame that the greatest Roumanian composer doesn't get more. The flooer is in terrible condition as the walls. On our question why is it in such a poor condition the answer was: since ten years we don't get money.
We even couldn't visit the other parts of the palace, which according to the photos is something excellent secesssion decoration.
even if they don't ask just 2,5 Lej for the visit, it is not worth to do it.

The building that houses the Enescu Museum is worth a visit just to get a glimpse of the opulent Bucharest social setting might've look like in the 1930's. The Enescu memorabilia are well selected and nicely displayed. If you can, try to get tickets to one of the concerts sometimes performed on the premices.

This is worth seeing for the palace and is close to the muzeul colectiilor de arta.
If you like George Enescu's music it is a must however otherwise there are exhibits of his personnel possessions (medals and clothes etc) which are interesting and of course it is a beautiful palace.

Stayed at Radisson and walked to this museum. He was a great Romanian but the staff totally left us to wander through museum without interest in our inspection of artifacts. Worth your time.

This fascinating museum is located in the Cantacuzino Palace, one of the most beautiful historic buildings in Bucharest. The museum has a number of rooms dealing with the life of George Enescu, who lived between 1881-1955 and was one of the most important Romanian composers of all time. Through the museum you can learn about his life history and his various works. The entrance fee is cheap. Opening hours: Tuesdays to Sunday from 10: 00-17: 00. How long should I visit? About an hour.

It is an impressive building but in need of urgent repair. Exhibits are nicely displayed.
Most part of the building is closed to visitors. It is a pity the visitors are not allowed to appreciate the beauty of the building.
