This was a lovely green covered walk we started from the exit of the Gric tunnel. It was a short steep section up steps and then a gentle walk along the side of the hill. It has some lovely view down to the lower town. It goes along to Lotrscak tower and then continues along to the love rails. Its a walk down the stairs and down to Ilica street. We loved it and spent some time enjoying the views.

Perched on the edge of Upper Tower, next to Lotrscak Tower, Strossmayer sits in an ideal location. This cobbled path winds along the escarpment in which Upper Town sits, giving you an excellent view of the city below. A large, art nouveau, iron archway marks the start of the promenade, while colourful and unique pieces of art adorn the trees, benches, and lampposts along the route. There's a very small selection of food vendors and alcohol to purchase refreshments from at the start of the promenade. There's also a few small booths selling artwork, jewellery, and other souvenirs. There's a stage next the archway, and on weekends you can catch musical acts here, playing to couples as they stroll about the path. There's a handful of benches and picnic tables near the stage if you'd rather have a seat to enjoy your drink/food than walk. There are washrooms as well. Strossmayer was one of my favourite parts of Zagreb, and although it's small, it makes up in quality for what it lacks in quantity.

Access the Strossmayer Promenade by the funicular, as you exit walk to your right... the Promenade runs along the old walls of the city... it is the southern border of the Upper Town. It is a beautiful scenic walkway... it could be a free alternative to the Zegreb Eye option.

This is a promenade built on top of a hill. I walked down from St. Mark's Church to the Lotrscak Tower, and then headed down towards Jelacic Square while looking at the city of Zagreb. It is quite unique, with art pieces casually displayed everywhere and graffiti that looks like art. It seems that various events such as a Christmas market in winter are held here. You can enjoy Zagreb in a slightly different way than the typical tourist spots.

The Strossmayer Promenade was named after a Croatian bishop and politician Josip Juraj Strossmayer. It runs along the medieval wall in Upper Town. The cobblestone street is shaded by large chestnut trees, you can seat on a bench and enjoy the view and just relax, visited last year. It is most popular in summer when the streets a full of artists, food stalls and cafes. If you like you can catch the Funicular ( cable car ) from Tomic Street.

A little artsy place where there are some food stalls and can grab some beer. It offers a nice view of the Lower Town as it is on the elevated part of the town. Has some instagrammable spots too. Nice for an evening walk.

Not far from St. Mark's Church (Crkva sv. Marka).

Enjoyed the promenade, especially the trees and plaques presenting local archaeological history. Listened for the cannon and walked through the tunnel afterwards.

This is a stunning thing to look at, either in the day time or in the evening.
I preferred the evening as there were less people

My wife and I will have a brief stopover in Zagreb in the early morning of Tuesday 7 August this year. We will have the time from landing at 7:10am to scheduled departure at 3:35pm, so approximately 3.5 to 4 hours outside the airport. Are there any suggestions on places to go in Zagreb to see some sights and to savour the flavours of Croatia? Is it best to get into a taxi, or is there good public transport from Zagreb Airport to Zagreb city (and return)?
Written 15 March 2018
Bus ticket in both direction will cost you less then 6 € per person and driving will last about 35 minutes.
Taxi will be at least 20€.
You decide. 😉
