Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a little museum but very informative. The current exhibition focuses on the Homeland War, and it has much memorabilia, interesting videos, a lot of datas you can reflect on. The people were ultra nice, giving us chairs to sit in front of the videos, being available for questions. We spent a couple of hours taking it all in, and we found it really worth it.

We enjoyed this museum but one has to keep in mind that it only has one temporary exhibition as we were told it is too small to contain all the items owned by the museum. We visited it early September when it was the 1918 exhibition and found it very interesting. We would have appreciated a bit more general background info. We spent an hour and half there. Explanations were in Croatian and in English. Cheap entrance. Worth visiting.

Very interesting museum about the important history of Croatia. Currently the exhibition is about the year 1945, so the end of WW2, fascism, communism. You can spend one good hour there, but everything is written in Croatian so you need a guide. Martina guided me and it was great!

If you like lots of things to read in a jumbled manner then this museum is for you. I too was hoping for a history of Zagreb not just one topic poorly organised and only having many items to read. The rooms did have sound effects but nothing terribly interesting.

Zagreb has a rich history it would be lovely to see it

We we disappointed. The Zagreb museum directory made it sound bigger and more comprehensive than it was. Total focus was on recent war.

There is absolutely nothing in it. All they had was a series of photographs from the Balkan wars in the 1990s but there was no information about what happened in the war and nothing on anything else. Completely and utterly dreadful

The museum is small and doesn't seem to have a permanent exhibition yet. We visited while the "Faces of War" exhibition was on. It really shows you the impact of the war in the 90s, both on the country and the individuals. It is better to look up some information first or watch the video in the main hall (it is very long but extensive) so you get the background (which is not explained in the description of the pictures).
The pictures are well selected and sometimes give you a chill thinking about what must have happened and thus make you realise that the Croatia you are visiting today was at war not so long ago.
The staff is also very eager to help you as there aren't many visitors and you can ask them extra info if you want to.
Unfortunately the museum is unable to show the full collection and therefore small, which is why it does not get the full five stars.

The museum was small and focused art displaying images from the war. The best part of this museum was the staff. They made themselves readily available, spoke great English, and can tell you everything about Croatia's history, culture and people. We spent about 45 mins talking to Ivan, who was very friendly and was a wealth of historical knowledge. He was able to answer every question we had about Croatia and the other former Yugoslav republics very eloquently and was very happy to share his knowledge. It is rare to get a chance to talk to a local expert one-on-one like that about the history of their country. This museum was probably one of the best I have ever been to and was one of the highlights of our trip to Croatia!

Although it claims to have more than 140,000 artifacts, due to not having a permanent exhibition hall/building, unbeknownst to me they only showcase selected items at one time; and during my visit it was only a selection of recoveries from a sunken 15th century ship; I had hoped to experience the whole Croatian culture/history etc in visiting this museum, and left with such emptiness and disillusion. Until they acquire a permanent place, and exhibit their items, this should best be avoided...
