The Alexander Nevsky Patriarchal Cathedral is the most beautiful Cathedral in Sofia outside and inside. I would recommend to go there on Sunday .

Huge building, built in Neo-Byzantine. Rooftop of the cathedral is made from a pure gold. From inside, cathedral is painted with really nice frescos and icons. It kind of reminds me of cathedrals from "Templar" based movies and video games :D Only thing I didn't...More

Located not far away from the center, it's a good stroll from the main street. On the way there's also a nice park making the walk very pleasant. Free access to get in, interior are pretty cool too

Absolutely gorgeous. The inside is spectacular. One could spend hours admiring the painted walls and ceilings.

Can you climb up to the dome? I just watched Great Continental Railway Journeys and Michael Portillo did - or is that just for the BBC?

I didn't see any access where that would be allowed. It was a pretty quiet day though. I couldn't swear that it wasn't available at some other time.
