Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

TZUM means Central Universal Store. When I was a child TZUM was the biggest store in Sofia. We didn't have Malls. Everybody wanted to go shopping in TZUM. Children from the country came to visit TZUM and were attracted by the escalators. It was full of people. Sometimes we had to wait for the escalator. Within the elevator there was a man who worked there, pressed the buttons and watched. I always thought how awful is to work in the elevator. On the different floors were selled articles respectively for man, woman, children, home and sports. The shopassistants were women in a bad mood and not very kind because of the big number of clients. I remeber the New Year decoration as magnificent! In the winter, before we went out of the big doors there were a buffering warm air. Amazing!
Now TZUM is not the same. It is a boring store from the point of view of people who don't know its past. Go there, close your eyes and try to imagine all these people, queues, noise, shopassistants... and it will be very interesting fo you.

I remembered the Tsum from many years ago as a big and beautiful department store where there was not much to buy during the communist years so, when we went again recently I was very excited, hoping to find the same beautiful old building but with nice items to buy inside. The disappointment was huge. Yes, the building is still there, in the center of Sofia, with its marble columns, beautiful ceilings and crystal chandeliers but it is as empty of shops as it is empty of shoppers. This is a real shame because the Tsum Sofia could be as beautiful as Harvey Nichols in London and much more than Bloomingdales in Dubai mall and I hope that soon it will become the fashionable place it deserves to be.

With all the potential of being an exclusive shopping centre, to have a distinguished clientele and a big name based on it all; it has only managed to get some corny shops overflowing with tacky items where the nouveau-rich elite buys gifts for the members of its tribe.
If you are a tourist walking by the centre, its real value becomes apparent only when you require clean sanitary services, free of charge.

This used to be a fantastic shopping center. In the early 90s it was the place to see and be seen, with the coolest stores, a crest cafe and beautiful atmosphere.
Now all that is left is a bit of a ghost of all the life that tho beautiful building used to host.
I think it's worth a quick walk through just to admire he architecture. The escalators are actually quite cool, and are positioned a little differently than in malls these days. I hope Tzum one day returns to be as fun and full of great stores and shoppers as it used to be ...

Worth a visit if only for the architecture. The shops are not much, but the building is very interesting - a memory of communism. It is easily reached by the subway and it's well lit at night. There are interesting legends about it, you need to find someone to tell you.

This place is nothing more than faded glory. Most shops are vacant and the place is quite boring. There are other better suited and better outfitted shopping centers in Sofia, so best avoided.

Beautiful building for a shopping centre, but so many empty shop units make for a lifeless atmosphere!

There are no shopping centres like this any more. It is not all commercialism, you know that after visiting TSUM. The cultural part attracts you much more. And you want to come back just to feel the history and comfort around yourself. Even more when it is closing time when it is nearly empty :)

It is quite difficult to review TSUM, because it is such an odd place. I read another review below that talks of it in it's heyday when it was full of shops and people, and you do get a sense that this is a building with a past that needs to find a future. When we went there it was nearly deserted, and few of the shops were open. In fact the occupation ratio is not high. What is there is of passing interest but we didn't make that much or many purchases. What is interesting though is to look at the architecture which is beautiful and also to take a look at the various models that have push button commentaries. Clearly this is something that just needs an idea to breath life back into it. As it is currently it is a consumer experiment that isn't working.
