Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Despić House is a house museum built by the wealthy, Serbian mercantile family, Despić, then one of the wealthiest and most prominent Serb families in Sarajevo. The house was built in several phases in three different periods, the oldest part dates from the 17th century. The design and decorations of the house display the changing tastes as the Ottomans began to lose control of its Balkans territories. Most of the rooms have Ottoman influences. Later additions to the room incorporate European and especially French influences.
Despić family, who donated the house to the city of Sarajevo together with another building, which today houses the Museum of Literature and Theater Arts.] The significance of this house lies in the fact that the first classical theatre performances took place in it, so that this building can be considered the forerunner of the modern theatre in Sarajevo.

This small house was owned by family Despic and was a place where first theater performances were held in Sarajevo. In a way, this is (sort of) the first theatre in Sarajevo. It is interesting to see its rooms and especially to read the will of Mr Makso Despic, very unusual then and even today.

Many guidebooks mention the Zvro house (muslim house) and fewer the Despic house although it is at least as interesting. Very easy to find, not far from the Latin bridge, with view on the river.
You get to discover how a family of rich Serbians used to live in the past centuries. The ground floor is simple, the top floor more 'Habsburg' like with very nice old furniture.
Near the ticket office there is a very interesting old map of Sarajevo.

Like many of Sarajevo's attractions, the Despic House is quite under-developed. You can easily pass it on the street and not know what it is. The patio is also crying out for a little cafe. Entry is cheap, there's good information in English on the walls outside each room, and the rooms are very nicely preserved. Look out for the secret staircase. You'll only need about fifteen minutes in total. I loved the combined European and Turkish lifestyle in evidence throughout.

The house is showing the periods of Bosnian people's life. Each room is from different periods. House is multi-religional , multi-culturel. It was just excellent for me to see and feel that house!

Despic House, located close to Latin Bridge is one of least mentioned places in Sarajevo guides. The place gives a very good view of daily life of a rich family through the 19th century Sarajevo. The staff is very willing to tell you the details of the family who used to own the house.

The "despica kuca", as it's called in Bosnian language, is definitely worth a visit - beautiful furniture, and the history of the place make it really a must see when visiting Sarajevo!

Dine on the river at Inat Kuca, and enjoy some Bosnian specialties. We had the pura -- it is a hearty dish (we couldn't finish it), klepe -- dumplings in a delicious sauce, and stuffed onions.
