- Ellen CBedford, United Kingdom93 contributionsLooking Back at 1984 Winter OlympicsI remember watching the 1984 Winter Olympics and seeing the bobsleigh teams racing on this work of art on top of a mountain overlooking the city of Sarajevo. Years later standing by the bobsleigh it was tinged with sadness knowing that the Serbs used this mountain as part of their bombardment during the Siege of Sarajevo in the early 1990s. The bobsleigh is sadly neglected and will require lots of investment to restore it to its former glory, which nobody can agree to. The view from the mountain is utterly takes your breath away.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 October 2023
- Julie F15 contributionsPoignantA very poignant place to visit. Beautiful journey up the mountain with fantastic views of Sarajevo. Walking the track felt very post apocalyptic and it was hard to imagine it in 1984 full of athletes and spectators. The graffiti was stunning, I took so many photos. It makes quite a long walk but a thoroughly enjoyable oneVisited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 July 2024
- MrThomas1981Ipswich, United Kingdom955 contributionsWell worth an exploreIf, like me you remember watching both the 1984 olympics and later the war, this is kind of one of the things you have to visit in Sarajevo. If you are doing it in summer, it's around 2.5 km down and 2.5km back in the heat so take plenty of water. Also if you are wanting to visit the Bistrik Fortress or other things on the mountain, its worth checking where they are as you don't want to get all the way down, head back up before realising what you want to see is actually at the bottom! Quite a lot of the sniper positions have been filled in so if you want to see them, you need to look at the back or explore up the side sections which were used as training runs.Visited August 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 12 August 2024

This abandoned bobsleigh and luge track is a fantastic place to visit. It goes through the forest and you can have a lovely walk on the track. The track is covered in a lot of graffiti what makes it a very cool place to walk. This is an absolute highlight in Sarajevo!

Great to see this relic of the Winter Olympics - now graffiti art. We took the cable car from Sarajevo (15KM one way or 20KM return) which was clean and efficient and gave a great aerial view of Sarajevo. From here we walked a couple of hundred meters to the signposted bobsleigh track and ended up walking back down the hill to Sarajevo - about 90 mins - great to do when the weather is OK...cafe and refreshment stands at the top.

Loved this place and yet at the same time it was all very sad.
First up to the reference in the title to Chernobyl. Anybody who has been there or rather to the former Soviet Soviet town of Pripyat will have seen decaying buildings and infrastructure which has been left to decay with nature creeping over concrete everywhere you look and surfaces covered in spray paint as so called artists practice their skills..
And that's what you have here. I loved the 1984 Olympics. Torvill and Dean and the sounds of the crowds cheering as the British 4 man Bob headed off from the top of the mountain. All that gone a long time ago, but there's something still magic about this place and having the chance to walk a good section down. We were on a Spirit half day trip lead by the superb Guide Safet Bigac and am so glad he took us. A gold medal winning visit. GO.

If you are in the area, go see this! We took the cable cars up ($32.50 for two), walked the track, and walked down the mountain. It is about 3.5 miles from end of the track to center of Old Town. Some is steep, but it is all on a paved track. It is very interesting. There are also other things to do at the top.

An abandoned bobsled track is located on Trebevic Mountain. The easiest way to get there is by cable car. The cost of travel to the mountain by cable car is 30 convertible marks, 20 km one way. I decided to buy a one-way ticket and walk down the mountain. The bobsled track itself is very impressive. Many tourists walk along it, take photos. Walking down the road along the highway, I came back to town. The descent on foot was about 40 minutes.

We were new in town and some how made found the way to go up into mountains. We took the cable carts which cost us 20 marks each. Then we trekked to find the bobsled place which was sad to see being abandoned. At one point there were thousands of spectators on 1980’s. Trekking back to the base of cable cart place was a struggle but scenic.

Immersed in lush Alpine-style nature, this reinforced concrete structure suddenly reveals itself, already impressive in itself. The mortar shells of the Bosnian civil war echo. Sarajevo can be seen immediately below, the victim. The writers have colored the circuit's dishes, but the ghosts of the past remain.
An excursion absolutely worth doing, possibly with a few people and after having read up on what this place represents.

Hi! How much time did you spent in Olympic Bobsleigh and Luge Track? Do you need a whole day or just few hours? Thanks for answers :)

Our visit was one of the stops of a (war)tour (organised by Toorico tours > more comments see > tripadvisor review). We've spent there +/- half an hour.
In that region you also can find interesting hiking trails (as many local people do during the weekend).

Hi, I'm going to Sarajevo next month and want to visit the bob sleigh track, can anyone advise on the best way to get to it - is there public transport, or is it walkable (distance and safety - I know there are many warnings about unexploded mines) or do they do guided tours there? Any advice would be appreciated. Many thanks.

Try "Insider Sarajevo" tours. It is much safer than going on your own because people are sometimes robbed at knife point up there.
