the city hall is within easy walking distance from the Latin bridge. What is funny is the stubborn house owner who demanded that is house to be rebuilt exactly like before. ( his house had to be moved for the City Hall ). So, the part of the house which had a great view of the river. Now has a great view of the street.

A must-do when you visit Sarajevo.
The architecture, the various offer of the City Hall building, and several permanent thematic exhibitions have been set up about the history of the city and city hall itself.

Designed in 1891, construction was completed in 1896. At the time it was the largest building of the Austro-Hungarian period in Sarajevo. Unfortunately this building was destroyed on 25 August 1992, resulting in the loss of countless manuscripts and rare books. The City Hall was reopened in 2014.

The Sarajevo City Hall is a must see. It is an architectural gem, a beautiful Moorish Revival-style reconstruction of the original edifice that was destroyed in the awful Siege of Sarajevo in the 1990s. Originally built in the 1890s, the city hall is also filled with history. On June 28, 1914, the building was the site of a reception for Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austrian-Hungarian throne. That reception was held after an unsuccessful attempt on the life of the Archduke earlier that day. Sadly, it was shortly after the Archduke and his wife left the city hall that they were assassinated near Sarajevo’s Latin Bridge not far away. The assassination was an event that has been described as the spark that led to the beginning of World War I. In the late 1940s, the city hall became the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Unfortunately, the building was destroyed on August 25, 1992, during the Siege of Sarajevo, together with the library’s collection of more than 2 million works. With the help of foreign funding, the city hall was eventually rebuilt, reopening in 2014. Today it is once again the seat of Sarajevo’s city government. It also contains a museum that includes an exhibit, Sarajevo 1914-2014, that tells the story of the city during the century. A visit to this stunningly beautiful, historic building is a real must on any visit to Sarajevo.

The original Sarajevo city hall was destroyed during the Siege of Sarajevo. The current building was restored thanks to funding by Austria, the EU and the city of Barcelona. The design of the building is mostly Moorish Revival. This is evident in the facade, which is painted in terracotta with red bands. The Facade also has several balconies with semi-horseshoe arches. The interior is also embellished with moorish influences. The atrium is probably the most beautiful part of the building. It has a colonnade of pointed horseshoe arches. Above that is a balcony with round horseshoe arches and topped with honeycombs vaults.

This beautiful and majestic building, now known as the Sarajevo City Hall, is the reconstruction of the Vijecnica, the old library of Sarajevo who burned down back in 1992, during that atrocious war. Unfortunately, all the books cherished there got lost in the flames. This building is a warning to never forget.

Free if you just want to see the look. It takes 10km to get into the building, but it's worth it. The exterior of the building is beautiful, and of course the interior is beautiful.
We hope you will be interested not only in the beauty of the building, but also in the exhibits of Bosnia and Herzegovina's historical materials from the war, which are displayed on each floor of the staircase. The exhibition description is in English or Bosnian, but in this day and age, Google Lens translates it into Japanese in less than 10 seconds. And for free.
This building is a reconstruction of the one destroyed by the conflict, and the conflict and the building are inseparable. I believe that conflict exhibits can help them feel or understand the beauty of buildings more.

The town hall of Sarajevo (Croatian: Vijecnica) is a wonderful photo opportunity, which is located directly on the river. For 10 km it can also be visited from the inside between 9:00 and 17:00. The building is a national monument built at the end of the 19th century.

The town hall of Saraevo is housed in the building known as “Vijećnica” as it housed the library since 1949. It was the largest building from the Austro-Hungarian era in Sarajevo, built in neo-Moorish style towards the end of the nineteenth century. During the war it was bombed with incendiary shells by Serbian forces and most of the books and manuscripts were lost. After the reconstruction which restored its original appearance it also hosts a museum and various events.

A beautiful building that burned down during the siege of Sarajevo. It was fully restored and opened in 2014. Today it serves as the residence and headquarters of the mayor of the city as well as the Sarajevo City Council. The building is open to the public, entrance 10 km. Inside you can take a walk, enjoy the chic interiors, read the history of the country, look in some offices. On the ground floor there is a nice museum, there is a good photo archive, and some details of the restoration of the building. Anyway, you can have a quiet half-day here. Very interesting.

Are you sure that the building has Turkish influence? It doesn’t seem to me like a Turkish building, I think ihas Moorish influences...

I'm not sure about Sarajevo, but in another important Bosnian City (Mostar), the Austria-Hungarian emperor ordered architects to Andalusia/Spain in order to study Moorish style to be replicated in the Balkans as a sign of respect for local Muslims. This lesson was taught by the great guide RUBA from Mostar Free tour.

Hello friends,I read in Lonely Planet that Vijecnica is closed on Saturdays and Sunday's, and in another sight that it's open to visitors every day. Which is the case? I will only be in Sarajevo on a Saturday
