Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Sarajevo’s Main Post Office was opened in 1913, designed by Josip Vancaš in Austrian Secessionist style. Like many prominent buildings in the city, this building was destroyed by the Serbian JNA during the Siege of Sarajevo.
The Post Office building was restored in 2001 and continues to function as a post office. Both the interior and exterior are very grand, much too grand given the decreasing use of the post office. A beautiful landmark in Sarajevo nevertheless.

This post office was built in Austro-Hungarian time and unfortunately it was completely burnt down in May 1992 during the siege of Sarajevo. It was fully renovated after the war and it has a beautiful hall so make sure you go in and take a look - it's open and free.

The post office, which was heavily destroyed during the war and reconstructed recently, is a gorgeous building with an even more gorgeous hall inside.

Don't just walk past it. Stop inside and admire the architecture. If you have post cards to mail, have a stamp collection, or want an affordable souvenir for your scrap book you can pick up a stamp or two.

this building was completely destroyed during the bosnian war with craots, with the precision of Croatian architect Josip Vancaš the building was rebuilt exactly as it was before the destruction. Amazing art work showing the precision and minute work of the architect !!!!

Built and opened at the beginning of the last century, it was very damaged during the war in May, 1992 as a strategic building in the city. The process of restoration work took a couple of years and was finished in 2001 by architect Ferhat Mulabegović.
HOW TO GET TO THE POST OFFICE:
It is easy accessible by public transport. Take one of tram lines: 1, 2, 3, or 5 and get off at stop Pošta/Post Office. As soon as you get off, you will spot this building across the street.
WHY THIS POST OFFICE IS WORTHY OF YOUR ATTENTION:
- Interior of this building is so impressive. Architect Josip Vancaš achieved a strong monumental classical expression with his design and decoration in the Secession style.
- Some architectural elements of Vancaš's work remind us of Post Office building in Vienna.
- The central area of the hall is covered by steel and glass structure enabling natural light to shine through.
My recommendation for tourists, particularly for architecture and art lovers is: Even in the case you don't need to use any postal service, probably you feel tiredness after sightseeing and take a break. So, go in building, sit at the big table, set up at central place of the hall, and feel freshness of this cool place during hot summer days. Have a rest and enjoy impressive beauty of one of the most beautiful Post Offices in Europe.

I popped in and was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to get post card stamps. There is a little store that sells all sorts of post cards and accessories. Worth a quick visit.

At the beginning of 1911th years, a number of architectural masterpieces, a prominent Austro-Hungarian architect Joseph Vancas, designed the magnificent building of the General Post Office in Sarajevo, which was officially opened on 18th May, 1913. year.
very modern building, beautifully restored after the dreadful events than the 1991 to 1995.

Stopped in for postcard stamps and in a manner of seconds had successfully mailed a pile of postcards despite the language barrier with the clerk.

Unfortunately the most famous thing about the Sarajevo Post Office is long gone, the graffiti that appeared in the early days before the siege took hold. I won't spoil the surprise but ask your guide about it, Its the perfect example of some of the dark humour that arose out of those terrifying days. The building itself is pleasant and it worth whiling away an hour but there are more interesting things in this fascinating city.
