The museum itself is not very grand a building, but the exhibits tell an interesting story about how the Spanish Inquisition and expulsion of the Jews resulted in an exodus of Jews to Sarajevo, where they were welcomed with open arms. They played an integral part to Sarajevo society and in the history of Sarajevo. Definitely helped me understand a... More

This synagogue wasn't destroyed and is original with modifications over time . The ceiling is beautiful and it has an excellent display of the history of Jewish people in the city and through out the wars .

The old Sephardi synagogue --very centrally located -- houses the Jewish museum. The synagogue itself, built originally in the 16th century, is impressive in its own right from an architectural point of view. It has been renovated or refurbished. The videos on the second floor are excellent! Very informative and they focus on different topics: the Jews of Sarajevo, the... More

This is a small museum on the Jewish influence in B-H, it is not large, but it does give you the wider picture on Sarajevo society. Welcomed in by the doorman, it might be good to consider getting a guide or something similar, and good to check at what time the place is opening and closing.

The Jewish Museum is worth a quick stop if you've seen all the other sights in Sarajevo. It helps construct the story of Jewish history and life in the Balkans as well as their history in Sarajevo. Just don't go in expecting a vast display of anything historical or something to spend hours pouring over, unless you are a student... More

This old synagogue is one of only a few within Sarajevo, standing in testament to a Jewish community that no longer exists beyond about 750 Jews. It's well preserved, and has four levels of artifacts and history, telling the stories of the Sephardic Jews' arrival in Sarajevo, their contribution to the community, up to the decimation of their community during... This museum is small but packed with interesting history, both of the people of the area and life in Sarajevo in the past. Although a Jewish museum, it gives a feel for the general culture of Sarajevo. The photos of the Nazi-era existence and book of names of deceased from the Nazi-era give a chilling glimpse into the suffering undergone... More

A quiet museum located in an old synagogue, tucked away in a quiet courtyard off of the main street. The exhibits include some historical information on Jews in the area, along with a bit on WWII. You don't need a lot of time, but it is interesting to see how Jews once lived and currently live in the Balkans.
