About
The New Bazaar was established in 1939 and through the following years it kept on prospering and developing. Its establishment came as a necessity, due to the continuous increase of the trade activity which could not be afforded any longer by the only Old Bazaar. After the demolition of the old Bazaar in 1959, the new Bazaar remained for a long time the only trading centre of meat, fish, vegetables and fruits in Tirana. The New Bazaar is located in one of the oldest areas of the city. Even today, it continues to be one of the largest markets for meat, fish, vegetables and fruit trade in town. It's a space that operates 24 hours, with the biggest focus on product trade in the morning hours and on culinary issues in the afternoon for the restaurants around and the development of artistic and cultural activities such as festivals, fairs, etc

This is a newly renovated marketplace you can find in almost every European city.
Market stalls are centrally located where you can buy fruits, veggies, meat and fish.
Around them, as well in the side streets, there are many restaurants and bars, along with souvenir shops.
Nice area to stroll, specially at night. Don't forget to buy fantastic Albanian cheese.

Along the streets, there are many coffee shops, meat vendors and a big space dedicated to selling fruits and vegetables, covered in elegant black glass, which means that the market is still open on rainy days. The market offers a variety of fresh fruits, vegetables grown locally in the surrounding areas of Tirana, fish and meat, regional Albanian wine and raki.
This space is called Markata e Gjelber (The Green market), with a roof shape representing a modern imitation of the rooftops of old Tirana houses. Be aware of the colorful pattern of the walls in the surrounding buildings.
Anyway a new marked like this lack the atmosphere of old ones, but worth a visit.

Walking back from the Skanderberg Square to my hotel, I stumbled upon this market where locals shop for their provisions.

There are vendors selling fruits, vegetables, fish and seafoods, meats, honey, tobacco, etc. Surrounding this market are restaurants catering to the locals.

I enjoyed just walking around the market and taking pictures. I also enjoyed the colorful paint of the facades of the buildings near this market.

our fault, we expected a kind of bazar in Tirana - but there seems to be none. When we asked the bartender where could it be, he at first did not even understand what we mean (and he did speak English quite well), then tried to persuade us that this is the place we are searching for - and finaly suggested to go to Kruje, north from Tirana.
Place is lively, but mainly populated by turists and well-off locals (as this place sits next to a modern shopping mall, and not far from government buildings).

A late evening I was here for looking. A typical marked Place where you can buy different Things to eat or souvenir. I like that kind of building style in this area where many buildings had the same colors. Many cafees and restaurant to sit Down and enjoy the life. Nice area.

This market is completely new. Here you can find souvenirs (basically old communist stuff) but also olives, herbs, spices, fish, beef, vegetables, cheese, etc. The locals also come here to shop. Don't come too late if you want to see it. Around 1 pm must of it will be closed already

Mainly a food market where the locals sell their goods. There were some ceramics too. There's homemade Raki on sale. The surrounding buildings are colourful and there are cafes everywhere.

I won't lie I used to like the older one better. The new bazaar is really modern and beautiful but it has lost its identity. In this new place you can be everywhere in Europe. I bet the conditions for sellers are better but there were so many people that used to sell here few eggs or spinach from their gardens that totally disappear because they can't afford a rent here. anymore. Gentrification is not the solution!
