We had a wonderful experience going on one day trip to the Savulelele waterfall! Loved every moment of it! The hike and the waterfall are absolutely stunning. The village visit was such a unique experience. Talanoa treks paid attention to the tiny details such as spare towels, sulus, refreshing snack after the swim and even individual bowls for a kava ceremony, all immensely appreciated. Ben is an exceptional guide, very knowledgeable and accommodating. Definitely will be looking into joining more hikes with them while in Fiji and highly recommend!

Talanoa Treks hosted an 11-strong group from Manukau Tramping Club in New Zealand in early October. They arranged four nights hosted by Highland clans in villages (fantastic experience). Three days of hiking around the hills, rivers and mountains, led by local guides (including climbing Mt Tomaniivi, Fiji's highest mountain). Each day fresh scenery, new challenges. For Talanoa Treks, our tour managers (Ben and Jake) were well-organised, knowledgeable, good fun to be around, and joined in some of the hard graft.

Talanoa Treks provides a life-changing experience in the central highlands of Fiji.
This is much more than adventure travel. This is a deep and authentic dive into the heart of Fiji’s rich culture.
We were amazed by the beauty and serenity of the highland villages and by the warmth and generosity of the community members. Talanoa Treks has built trusting relationships with these special villages over decades, and as trekkers we gain an insider appreciation for the richness and complexity of Fijian life.
We have trekked in the Andes, the Alps, Australia, the Himalayas and throughout the world for more than 30 years. This rivals all of the other trips we have taken and adds greater cultural depth and appreciation.
If you are thinking about a trip to Fiji, it would not be complete without at least 3-5 days in the central highlands to see the authentic Fiji with Talanoa Treks. (As much as we enjoyed three days in the Yasawas at Barefoot Manta!)
Bula vinaka to Matt and Marita and all of our talented guides!!
John, Anne and our party of 8 (including 4 teenagers who were deprived of WiFi but loved all of the trekking)

This was one of the most incredible things I have ever done in my life.
The adventure, the people, the guides, the food, the swimming were all 10/10 and I can't wait to go back and do it all over again one day. The villages are beautiful and the people living their are truly the most kind and wonderful people. I did not want to leave on the last day! I am so grateful to Ben and Jake our Talanoa Trek guides for such an epic trip. Special mention to Mr Roko and Selita for their knowledge on the Treks. I can't wait to visit the villages again. The absolute best thing I did in both Fiji and in all of my travels.

An amazing trip, very well organised!
From the pick to the village and the hike, we were in good hands.
We did the Highland Escape in june. It was the hardest trek we ever did but the guides gave us time to rest and support so that everybody in the group finish the last climb.
The view was incredible and we enjoy having a swim in the river at
lunch break.
The next day we were too tired to do the second hike, so the villager gave us a tour and explained the culture and way of living, their agriculture and craftmanship.
We felt welcome by the village communities, we had a kava ceremonie to introduce ourself and ask permission to pass on their land and incredible feast each meal. The accomodation were rustic but confortable.
It was a rich and intense experience, we are so happy to have seen this side of fidji and meet with their villagers!

Very well organized and caring crew. Meeting the villagers in this context is a unique experience, far beyond the normal touristic venues. The food they prepared was amazing. The trail was very challenging. Make sure you are well prepared and properly clothed and equipped.

Hiking with Talanoa Treks should be on your must-do list for visiting Fiji! Not many visit the stunning interior of Viti Levu because the logistics can be tricky to arrange, but Talanoa Treks has everything you need including strong, equitable partnerships with local communities and other sustainability-minded organisations! They are part of a movement.
On my trip, I was able to enjoy landscapes not seen anywhere else in Fiji, authentic, healthy and PLENTIFUL home made meals with village residents, and fascinating conversations with Fijians and fellow travellers from interesting backgrounds.
You'll know that the price of the trip is $ well-spent when you meet your Fijian guides and experience the landscape, lifestyle & hospitality of your host communities.

I had always wanted to join a trekking trip with Talanoa Treks. The Highland Escape offers an immersive experience of the interior of Fiji. The trek offers something for everyone - the experienced trekkers to those who want to take it easy and purely have a different experience. The hospitality in the villages is thoughtful and experienced. Food is amazing. I appreciate Fiji even more after this trip.

On top of the magnificent views, healthy and fresh food, and astonishing hiking team, what fascinates me most is the level and depth of interaction between us, as guests, and the village communities, as hosts! It was meaningful, authentic, and heartiest! I strongly recommend anyone take advantage of this immersive experience in the interior of beautiful Fiji!

We can highly recommend the 3 day 'Highland Escape' trip with Talanoa Treks. Our group hiked from Naga to Nubutautau (with shorter hiking circuits on either end), staying one night in each village. We were treated to beautiful scenery (and, an added bonus, blue skies all round), and a well-paced hike with plenty of swimming opportunities and snack breaks. As some of the first outside visitors since Fiji re-opened for tourism, we appreciated the warm welcome and hospitality received from the villages. The accommodation was clean and comfortable, and the food tasty (plenty of roti, rice, rourou, vegetable curries, pineapples, and other fresh fare from the gardens). We were glad to completely disconnect, with no phone coverage. The Talanoa Treks team provided excellent support along the way - pre-departure info and trip logistics were smooth, and the stories shared helped pass the time on the drives to/from Suva. Vinaka vakalevu! Tara + Phil.

We arrive at 8:00am on a HAL cruise and must be back on the dock at 4:00pm. I wonder if you have any treks or tours we could follow.
Thanks

Hi Rod, unfortunately our day trips require a longer day (or days!) as we get right off the beaten track. For a shortish 5km hike you could check out the Colo-i-Suva forest park. There are various tours organised for cruise passengers or you can go independently. It's about a 20min taxi ride from the Suva wharf. My tip would be to get dropped off at the Park office and walk one of the trails down to the bottom pools, then walk back up the vehicle track to the office. It makes a nice circuit. You could finish with lunch or a coffee at the Colo-i-Suva rainforest lodge.

Bula, my husband and I are going to be in Suva from 5th - 10th of October could you tell me how we go about making a booking? And if tours are being run then. Thank you

Bula Ursula,
Unfortunately we have our Cross-Highland Hike from 7-10th October and this is already full. If you are interested in hiking you could visit Colo-i-Suva forest park, a 15 minute taxi ride from Suva which has nice 1-2hour forest trails. Namosi Eco Retreat is a new place which opened earlier this year and is a beautiful spot in the hills about 1.5 hours from Suva. You could also try contacting them. Sorry that we couldn't help further! Have a wonderful stay in Suva, Marita

My wife and I will be in port in Suva on October 13 off the Maasdam from 8AM to 11PM. Is it possible to do a day tour for 2 to 4 persons? We at in our early 70s and in good health.

Bula, Thanks for getting in touch. Our day trip travels 2.5 hours north of Suva so usually cruise ship passengers aren't able to join us as it's a full day from 7.30am to 6.30pm. However, if you arrive at 8am and don't depart until 11pm we would be able to accommodate you. Very grateful if you could drop me a line so I can send through full details- please visit our website (search for Talanoa Treks) and there's a contact form or our email address there. Vinaka!

Hi!
I am likely to be in Suva between 1 to 6 Mar. Could you suggest the tours that i could be a part of on the weekend and what would be the cost. Also, do you pick up from and drop back to the hotel in CBD?
Appreciate your response.
Thanks,

My husband and I will be in Suva on the Oceania Marina Wednesday March 16 from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm. Would you have a day trek available for us to do? If so, what would it include and what would the cost be? Will you pick up and drop off at the ship?
Thanks,

Bula Lynda,
Thanks for getting in touch. We'd love to be able to take you, but I'm afraid our day trip starts early and is a full day out. If you'd like to stretch your legs, it's well worth planning a stroll around Suva's central area... it's pretty easy to do on foot, and if it gets too hot, just flag down a local taxi. Make sure you check out the Fiji Museum (there's a nice new cafe there), and call in at the Grand Pacific Hotel to look at this newly refurbished historic gem. If you want to walk further, there's a pathway that extends all around the peninsula along the sea wall from near the museum and Grand Pacific to the national stadium... a pleasant 5km or so one way (although it can be a hot walk during the day). You'll find lots of people taking strolls along here and exercising in the early evening. For something out of town Colo-i-Suva is a pretty forest park with several km of trails and natural pools to swim in. This can get busy if there's a big cruise ship in. Hope that helps and I'm sorry we can't accommodate you!
Have a great holiday!

We are due in Suva on the Sun Princess Saturday 27th June 2015 (8 - 5pm) and would love to do a hike / waterfall tour. Do you have any availability around this date?

Bula David, thanks so much for getting in touch. We'd love to take you both on one of our hikes, but unfortunately we've got two multi-day trips running over that weekend and we'll be fully taken up with those. I'm really sorry not to be be able to accommodate you, but please just get in touch if you'd like any tips for your time in Suva or Fiji.
Have a great adventure.
