    An interesting journey
A great little museum I liked that there was an emphasis on thanking care of the ocean for future generations. The journey theme was effective as a way to understand the history of the people who live in Fiji now. I learnt a lot.

    Must see Museum in Suva
Do not miss a visit to this interesting Museum. It highlights the pacific area with particular reference to Fiji. The current exhibit "Voyages" stories of an Ocean people is a must see. Set in the Botanic gardens with a cafe makes for a relaxing visit.

    Part of a cruise excursion.
Simple but nicely done. There are several rooms depicting the history of Fiji......doesn't take long to go through it. There is also washrooms, gift shop and refreshments on site. Next to the museum is the Thurston Gardens.

Limited displays and also limited themes

There is an emphasis on canoe travel and some info on tribal life and very little on English colonisation

Fiji was impacted by other Oceania nations such as Tonga and after the British the Indians

The museum has such a scope it’s a shame it’s almost a parody of island life

But it’s all they have in the way of museums so on a hot day worth a look but really quite disappointing

Great little museum with some good local information. Not huge, so easy to fit in a visit within an hour for sure.

If was quiet and I learnt a few things!

I do like a good museum and this seems to be the only one in the whole of Fiji. It was ok, nothing special. Currently half price ($5) as it is undergoing renovations and only half of the museum is open to the public.

This museum helps you to understand the history and demographics of Fiji. This is a small but interesting museum. You will gain insight into it's indigenous people as well as understand why Fiji had such a large Indian population, to the extent that the 3 languages spoken in Fiji are Fijian, English and Hindi. If you want to bring home a conversation piece, go to the git shop and get a cannibal fork.

A small museum consisting of one room showcasing Oceanic cultural artefacts and an adjacent desi (Indian) exhibit. The native Fijian and Kiribatian objects were top notch rarities, as is the boat the occupies the centerpiece of the main room. Overall, however, it is disappointing that a nation with such a rich history, composed of so many anthropological flavors, could not muster a more comprehensive, up-to-date exhibition. DNA has told us a lot of Austraonesian, Polynesian, Melanesian migrations; there is so much information about the social-political organization of local clans and their customs; the museum avoids the effort through a few anecdotes. Much more could also be done with the garden, which occupies prime real estate in Suva.

For a country with alot of recorded history this museum does a terrible job at showing it. More of a exhibition gallery than a museum, with the random items, games & plastic fashion displays. Attached Souvenir shop was okay. Only worth the visit because it's really rare to see any Fijian artifact anywhere else. $5 current entry fee.
