Too Late for the Tour, but on time for a Tasting!
Mar. 2018 • Couples
We arrived too late for the 1400 tour; however, we were still given a tasting by one of the managers and the wine was phenomenal. We sampled a tannat, Malbec, and a Rose-Tannat blend. All three were excellent and we left with three bottles! The gentleman who gave us the tasting was very friendly and easy to talk to. A word to advice- if you're getting there by Uber, remember that there is a gate at the entrance and the guard building is about 30 yards away, so your driver will need to get their attention to let you in.

Outstanding!
Jan. 2018 • Couples
We visited this winery about 10 days ago and it was a fabulous experience.
The owner opened up for our small group and no was was disappointed in the wines we tasted. No buying required, buts lots of bottles were purchased. We were not wine connoisseurs, but we bought 2 bottles of his Bodegas Carrau Tanner De Reserve 2015. It lasted 2 days on board. The best red I have tasted in years! Rich full bodied and smooth as silk. Now the challenge is finding it in the States so I can order a case!

Fun, friendly, and informative wine tour
Nov. 2017 • Solo
Bodegas Carrau is an attractive property near to Montevideo. A very informative and relaxed wine tour was provided by the owner's son, part of a long legacy of wine making in the family. The tour culminated in a wine tasting in his grandfathers cozy study during which general and detailed questions were graciously answered over some great wines. The owner also stopped by to chat. It was a very nice day.

No Whining from my beer drinking husband
Mar. 2017 • Couples
To have an owner give you the 100+ year history of his family making wine, how they settled where they are and discuss the wines they offer may have ruined me on future Winery tours because I will expect this type of treatment every time! It was an excellent experience - even for my husband who is not a "wine guy". We were taught about the process for the different wines and the grapes they use. The tasting room experience was superb! We were a group of six and were in Montevideo for a cruise. We had plenty of time to get there by taxi (tried doing uber but had a fail due to communication problems) and had a bit of issue getting the 2nd taxi driver to come back but all worked out fine! The grounds are fabulous and lush. It was a warm day, but the canopy of trees at the bodega made it feel like we had gone to a different climate! This was most enjoyable!

Wonderful tour and tasting.
Feb. 2017
We had a fantastic time on our tour here. The atmosphere for the tasting was very wonderful ad the wine was delicious. The tour and tasting were USD $30 per person, which is a much better price compared to some other Bodegas in the vicinity. You have to take a taxi out of town and back, which is like a 20 minute ride, but well worth it.

Superb winery tour and tasting
Feb. 2017 • Couples
During a visit to Montevideo, we were very fortunate to visit the Carrau Winery hosted by Ryan Hamilton (wine-experience.com) with a small group (9) and featuring a personally-guided tour and seated, wine tasting session with the owner (Javier Carrau) in his father's den. It was 'special" in every way - to talk directly with the owner and to hear about the over 100 year history of the Carrau wine making family was unforgettable.

Lovely

We loved the visit. The Bodega is beautiful and we learned a lot about the wine production. We taste 4 type of good wines and our "guide" (the owner of the bodega) was very friendly with us. And the end of the visit I recommend to buy some bottles of wines. The price is great!

A MUST FOR WINE ENTHUSIASTS
Nov. 2015 • Friends
This bodega is only a short drive out of Montevideo and is well worth the effort of getting there. We took the wine tour and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. The tour was conducted by Marguerite, a Carrau family member and her knowledge of wine and winemaking and her passion for her industry was amazing. Although she had to conduct more tours that day, she made us feel as though we were special guests. The wine itself was as good as you'd get anywhere. My personal favourite was the chardonnay.
