Yes, there are some excellent parrilla eateries here for a major meal and great local suds before returning to "das boot". And some shops for fair priced Tee's, etc. too. But, the main feature is this great saved structure....look up, see that awesome clock, the rafters, etc...from days gone by they could tell of the real life of the great... More

Good place to visit but I confess that I was expecting more from this market. In general is good, but the service in the restaurant we stayed was very bad. Anyway it is a mandatory place to visit if you are in Montevideu by leisure.

An old railway station that has been converted into a series of restaurant specialising in BBQ meats. The roaring fires, smoke, aroma's & hustle & bustle makes for a special occasion. Remember only lunch times not dinner

My wife and I had lunch there after the city tour. There are several restaurants with parrillas where you can get the authentic Uruguaian food ( great meat). We've ordered baby beef and picana which were tastefull. Good price for the meal ( USD 40 for 2 persons without dessert), thought it would be more expensive because thats a touristic... More

You might need to walk thru a sketchy street or two to get to it if you are coming down the walking street but it is well worth it. Surrounded by lots of restaurants (many inexpensive and very good) it first has the appearance of a tourist trap. But go in to the market and you'll understand the fuss. Some... More

We stopped in Montevideo as part of a South American cruise and enjoyed visiting the city. If you are docked at the port, the Mercado provides a great stop for food and souvenirs. According to our local guide, many locals eat here as well - it is not just a tourist stop. While the stores inside the Mercado are popular,... More

This place has a great deal of hustle and bustle. It seems to be a converted train station and is located at the port. It's primarily food and drink on offer so there is plenty to choose from! All local foods. Some places offer the Chivito!! A pimped up steak sandwich... well worth a try for the hungry visitor. Look... More

Fantastic open grills and nice artisan shops. The big drawback is that the grills and the market closes at 17.00. A pity that you cannot plan a dinner there.
