The Bouza Bodega is worth a trip for either a wine tasting or a paired wine lunch. It was about 30 minutes away from our hotel in Montevideo. The boutique was easy to find after we discovered all the antique cars which immediately got our attention. The boutique is off to the left as you enter.

Lunch with a wine tour- this winery was a half day tour from my hotel Not cheap, yet good value.

An interesting simple tour before a quality lunch with wine options in each course. An extra wine added and a finish with some grappa.

It was the third time that a visited Bouza; the previous were not bad.

We didn't have reservations, but, since there were tables outside and we were told we could be there and have something to drink, we have decided to drink some wine while waiting for the tour.

More than half an hour later no waiter came to check on us or to offer us anything. We asked again, but ten more minutes have passed without a change. The employees were rude and stuck-up; as a result we went away and didn't take the tour and continued our trip to Colonia del Sacramento, that fortunately was much better than this deception...

The winery is located approximately 20 minutes from the center of Montevideo. We arrived under the assumption that for a fee we were to enjoy a tour of the vineyard, wine tasting and lunch. We confirmed this a few times, only to find out that the tour was free and lunch separate.

The tour was very interesting and the tour guide very knowledgeable. She conducted the tour in 3 languages (Spanish, Portuguese and English), which gave everybody a bit of time to explore on their own.

Apart from explaining/showing the whole wine making process, the tour also included a visit to a large barn, filled with vintage cars and motorcycles. We were told that they were all in driving condition. I would have liked to spend some more time here.

Lunch was very good and tasty, but we were a bit surprised about the prices of the wine, given that it was produced on the property.

Our day was off to a rocky start with an unapologetic van driver who showed up to our hotel one hour late without a greeting, smile or explanation. Whether this was a communication snafu with our hotel is unclear but the hotel apparently called the winery at least twice for a time update. Either way, my bf had a difficult time communicating with the winery about our reservation and pickup times and this area needs improvement. It is the first impression and sets the tone.

The winery is beautiful and our tour guide did a great job handling two different languages. We have taken many tours of wineries and this one was particularly good.

Lunch was mostly successful. The shrimp appetizer was the star, the grilled octopus was good. My main entree was barely edible. It was lamb that the waiter described as a tough piece of meat (part of the leg) that gets vacuum packed until it is beautifully tender. It wasn’t tender at all. It was a tough cut of meat that was difficult to chew and unpleasant. My bf’s fish was good. Our desserts were pretty good. I had Creme brûlée (nice crispy top and perfect consistency but lacking flavor) my bf had flan and he liked it. The wine tasting during lunch was great.

The weather was lovely, the winery cat was a doll and the scenery was very pretty. We left with fixed feelings about the experience. We live in the region and are always looking for experiences to share with visitors. If we were taking guests again we might find our own ride, do the tour again, and weigh our lunch options carefully.

I read many reviews with conflicting information. Tour and tasting is 1000 Uruguayan pesos (~USD40) per person. Taxi to (can pick up any taxi in the city) and from (they can arrange a return taxi) old city is 400-450 pesos each way by the meter. It takes 20-30 minutes. At the bodega you can pay in cash, USD, or with credit card (& perhaps other currencies). The tour is guided and includes a look at the owner's vintage cars in addition to the usual. The tasting includes 4 outstanding wines including a tannat. Also included are various meats, cheeses, and breads. Wines are available for purchase. It's in a bucolic setting with friendly people and is an excellent way to spend 2-3 hours.

We went to Bouza for lunch and had a quick, but informative, tour of the facilities while we were waiting for the table.

This winery was a pleasant surprise, in terms of facilities and the wine they produce. We had recently been on a private tour of Médoc châteux and were impressed by the equipment and techniques Bouza employs, which match those used by Bordeux wineries. The best wine produced by this Uruaguyan winery also leaves nothing to be desired when compared to French wines. Kudos for Bouza!

I went to Bouza in November 2018. This is a special family winery located near Montevideo. It is a combination of vineyard tour and food tasting. It’s a small winery and there is a great selection of vintage cars. The tour guide explained about the wine process in Portuguese and English. The experience with wine tasting is amazing. Each type of wine was served with the best food combination. My favorite wine was made by tannat grapes. I really recommend the visit.
