Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A beautiful place, the photos do not do justice to its beauty!!!.
Easy trek from the Socma community. Can be done in an hour or hour and a half tops. From there to the Raqypata ruins up top is another 30 minutes, the place is very well kept and the view is so pretty.
I took Peru Tripper agency which also included the visit to Ñaupa Iglesia, this last has long stairs that you can arrive up and admire all the views and ruins.

I hiked this yesterday with my husband and my sister-in-law and it exceeded all of my expectations! The hike itself is beautiful, the waterfall is breathtaking and the archaeological site located at the top of the canyon makes you get a sense of what Peru was like before the hoards of tourists!! We started the hike in Socma and it was the perfect distance (I would say about 8 km) round trip. The workout was great, but I didn't end up feeling overly exhausted when we came back!!

This was my third time traveling to the Cusco area. While the family I was traveling with headed to Machu Picchu, we were looking for something interesting to do in Urubamba. I googled around and found this hike. I was super pleasantly surprised. The hike was somewhat challenging, all uphill. The views of the valley and the mountains are so pristine and untouched, and the waterfall is a bonus to the hike. The whole deal cost 100 solas, from our house in Urubamba, for the guide to take us on the full hike, and back. It was well worth it. Look, you have to see Machu Picchu and Maras/Moray, those are unique to the region. But if you have some extra time and are looking for something also truly magnificent in an underrated way, check out this hike.

Due to a train disruption, I was delayed getting to Machu Picchu and found myself with some down time in the Sacred Valley and I stumbled upon this hiking opportunity on Trip Advisor. Well no one had heard of it and it took an hour to find someone to take me there. It turns out that the driver had never been there either, but he was great and resourceful and we drove some very sketchy mountain roads to start the hike. After an hour of a fairly tough climb I was getting doubtful that we would ever see a waterfall but then it just appeared through the trees - spectacular!! What a treat and an unexpected one at that - totally worth it!! The only cost is the driver to get you there and the result - priceless!

I just did this hike yesterday. It was good for sure, but I think some points need to be made.
1. I hiked from the highway to the waterfall and back. I am quite acclimated and it took me 2.5h up and 2.25h to come back. I did get a little lost, which slowed me down a bit. If you use Maps.me, and decide to try the trail on the opposite side of the valley (road on the left, trail on right) it is not easy to follow. I got lost multiple times even while looking at Maps.me the whole time. Stick to the road.
2. Although I just said not to take the trails... I did enjoy them, you get close to the houses of the locals and there are no signs, it just feels so authentic.

Amazing hike & waterfalls. 5 hours hike from Ollantaytambo. You can arrive in Pachar but then you have to walk towards Soqma & eventually the falls. About an hour walk along the rail lines (not very pleasant).

The waterfall at the end of this rigorous hike is more grand than pictures can show. Along the hike the view of the landscape and farms deep in the mountains take you to a long ago time

Our hotel staff member at the Sacred Dreams Lodge, Michael recommended this and our taxi driver, Lenny guided us the entire way! It was probably our favorite part of Peru other then Manchu Piccu.

How did you get to Socma. I've been trying to map this and wondered if you used a guide?

We are going in a couple of weeks and the hike looks great - but we are struggling to find a route. Does this require a guide? I don't fancy getting lost on a mountain in the middle of Peru, but if we get some decent instructions or a map then I'm sure we'd be fine. Thanks

My husband and I are heading to Peru in November and will have a full day in Urubamba. This hike and waterfall looks awesome and we'd love to check it out. Any way you can provide information about exactly where we would start the hike or best way to get to/from there and how to find it?
