Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The walk to the bridge takes around 20 minutes from Machu Picchu and is well worth it for the sights that you see along the way. Offering great views of the river and forest down below and also of Machu Picchu itself. It's free, so why not do it? Access to the bridge is blocked off to prevent crossings, but the view of the bridge itself is good and makes for a good picture.

So, you will walk about 15-20 minutes out of your main path, thinking that you are going to see - and walk over - some majestic bridge. Nope! This is a few wooden planks, placed on a narrow ledge. You cannot walk on this bridge (and frankly, you probably would not want to once you see that a small misstep will be your last, as you will plunge down who-knows-how-many-hundreds-of-feet. You get to walk about 15 minutes and then see this wooden "bridge" from a distance. There are better ways to spend your half hour at Machu Picchu.

There were a few places on this trial with a sheer cliff drop right off the trial with no chance of recovery (not even a root to grab onto) if you tripped. I had to turn back, just not worth risking your life even if 1 in a million you'd trip no matter how good the destination in my opinion. I wish somebody would have told me.

Once you're up the south side at the check-in point, the hike is easy and very pretty. There's not much to the actual bridge, and it's not accessible to visitors, but the cliff it's built into is awe-inspiring. The pictures here (others and mine) are a good representation of the experience.

Nice quick walk towards the bridge. Of course you can't walk on it or go any further (you can see the path going up the mountain). But it makes a nice photo. Nice view of the valley on the way. Absolutely not scary although they advise some people scared of heights not to go.

If you have time, do not hesitate to go to this place. It takes about 30 to 40 minutes to reach and come back. The way offers different views.

Intimidating at first. Walking along a narrow path is hair raising but anxiety quickly dissipates as soon as you start to view the astonishing views of the cliffs all around. A trail that should not be skipped for any reason. Very safe trail.

This was a fantastic experience to be able to walk to the Inca bridge. It takes about half an hour for a reasonable fit person to walk to walking along the cliffs and the views of the rivewr below. It is amazing how they built that bridge so many centuries ago.

After reading some of the previous reviews of the Inca Bridge, I realized some missed the point. To see the Inca Bridge is to get a better understanding of the Inca's ingenuity. The hike to the bridge is not that difficult and the actual bridge is not that spectacular but it wasn't meant to be.... This was their escape route. The path and bridge was constructed along a cliff on a very narrow path. The bridge itself is just several logs placed across a wide gap in the path. After crossing the bridge, they could pull the logs off and no one could get across to reach them. Interesting construction and history to see.

It's a nice short hike/walk with great view and accessible inside Machu Picchu without extra entrance fee. The Inca bridge at the end itself is not very impressive. The hike though, is fun and interesting. There are some areas that may not be great for those with fear of height. It took us about half an hour in total to do this walk with numerous stops for pictures.

My cousin and I plan to visit in February because my cousin's friend told him that was the best time to go. Now I see it's the rainy season.
Do you have recommendations on how to select a tour? Our travel agent is recommending Globus Cosmos for $2359 for 11 days from Lima.
Thank you,
Paul

We used SouthAmerica.travel. It's a big company and they had all sorts of program n we were very satisfied with it. We also went in February. Even though it was a rainy season we didn't have any problem because it didn't rain all day. It would be better u decide on the travel agency n then plan the trip with the agent for they would know the best ways.

Do you need a ticket to do this walk. We are staying at the Belmond and souls line to take some walks if possible.

The bridge lies inside the Machu Picchu "complex" so you don't need an extra ticket to get to the bridge. The trailhead is up the mountainside from the main part of the ruins. There is a sign pointing you in the right direction. The trail is relatively narrow, but, on the up side, there is no way to get lost!
