Myself and my husband did the Lares Trek with G Adventures at the end of March. The trek itself was stunning and we were lucky to not have too many weather issues along the way. We saw 3 other tourists in 3 days - a heck of a difference to the Inca trail. It's a definite physical and mental challenge... More

I had a chance to talk with people that did the more popular Inca Trail , and by the sounds of things, I lucked out that the Inca Trail was sold out. The Lares Trek is unreal, truly inspiring. My guide with G - Adventures made the experience even better. It was my first trek, and I was a bit... More

We took a two day your through the Lares Trek. It was just amazing. The views are absolutely amazing and the trek is not too tough. By not too tough I mean that the roads, or so called roads, can be walked with moderate difficulty and the distances aren't too long (20km a day max). But don't think that walking... More

I recently just came back from a Peru trip and the views on this trail are stunning. You do reach am altitude of 4800m so altitude pills definitely come in handy. Quite a few of the group started felling the effects of the altitude on the second day when we reached the summit. Nothing to serious, headaches, muscle cramping and... More

A must do! This is an alternate trek towards Machi Picchu and in my view it is a much better option than the Inca Trail. We trekked for 4 days and didnt see another group of foreign tourists. Got into the real Peru, stopped for lunch in old ruins, and summited mountains accompanied by local farmers and their Lamas and... More

We went on a 4 days / 3 nights trek with SAM travel and it was great. Great views, and when we went (1st week of September), we barely saw any other tourists until Machu Picchu. Reasonably challenging, especially going over the high mountain passes, but nothing beyond reasonable fitness levels. Get some altitude acclimatisation first though!

Most people only think about the Inca Trail as the primary hiking path to Machu Picchu. There is another option -- the Lares Valley. It is very beautiful, not quite as high (14,500 ft. pass at maximum), much less crowded and much cleaner than the Inca Trail. And you have a lodge to lodge option so that you don't have... More

The trek is only 2 days. Then another day to aguascalientes by bus and train and last day visit to machupicchu. During day 1 we did our way up to 4200m and slept on tents in the middle of nowhere with a breathtaking views (and freezing temperatures, better bring a below zero sleeping bag or rent the one from the... We loved our guide, we loved the challenge!! The views are soaring and you won't be able to believe what you accomplish! Be aware that the altitude is VERY challenging on the second day of the trek. I'm in super good shape and I hike all the time in California, but hiking in the altitude on the ascent was the... More
