Best buses fir long distance travel in Peru
Of all the buses I have used whilst in Peru 4 in total, Cruz del Sur were the best. Very safe, very clean, the seats were extremely comfy and one bus had movies/entertainment screens like in an aeroplane - I would definitely recommend and have as my first choice. I am a solo senior female traveller, travelling solo after 30 years - very safe and comfy

    Okay for shorter trips
Took 3 Cruz del sur busses during our trip in Peru. Overall, fine for the two shorter trips (Lima > Ica, Ica > Nazca). We did the 15 hour ride from Nazca > Cuzco and it was rough. The bus did stop once in Abancay and we could get off to use the restroom (1 Sol) which was great because the bathroom on the bus was flooded. The heat was on at the beginning of the ride, making it pretty uncomfortable to sleep. The seats were fairly comfortable and did recline pretty far on the first floor. If you’re able to get seats 1 and 2 on the top level, definitely recommend, there’s no one in front of you, and the stairwell is behind, so you can recline. In all of the stations, knowing Spanish was definitely a plus as it didn’t seem like any of the staff speak English. Sometimes it was unclear around times and delays as there aren’t any monitors or announcements. Overall, a fine way to travel for trips under 5 hours, but I don’t think I’d do the 15 hour trip again. The busses and stations did feel safe, and the stations were clean.

    Great transportation and service
We took the bus in the Javier Prado station -Lima and went to Paracas. The whole experience with this bus brand has been amazing. Once we arrived to Paracas, we met Sr. Luis (owner of the restaurant of Cruz Del Sur station in Paracas). He was an angel to us because we had no idea how to plan our trip in Ica, so he got us a beautiful hotel in Nasca at a very affordable price (Roger is the guy in Nasca who also got us a great deal to see the Nasca lines by plane); he also got us the Islas ballestas and beaches excursion, and scheduled us all our buses at Cruz Del Sur around Ica and our way back to Lima. He went above and beyond for us. Whenever you go to Cruz Del Sur- Paracas station, contact Mr. Luis. He’s the best!

    From Lima to Paracas
What a surprise when our bus turned up and we got on. Such comfort and luxury like a business class seat on an aeroplane! Thoroughly enjoyed out trip down south to Paracas. The check in and getting off was all very good. Loved it and would recommend.

This bus company is extremely unreliable. My partner and I got the bus from Ica to Nasca which is a two hour ride. The bus was supposed to leave at 9am but didn’t show up until after 11am as was involved in an accident (or so we were told afterwards). No one at the bus station bothered to inform anybody of the delay or when the bus would arrive. We only had three hours originally in Nasca to do the Nasca lines flight so now we had one hour and ended up cancelling our flight in fear of missing our ongoing bus at 2.30. My partner had confirmed with the lady at the front desk that the bus was definitely leaving at 2:30 and was on time, thus prompting our decision to cancel the flight and tour. Once we told her we couldn’t do our tour due to the last bus being delayed, we asked if we could change our bus for a later time to still do the flight. She said we could but had to pay 70sol each as it was within 6 hours. We felt that because of the situation and no previous information of the delay that we should have been able to change our fare with the fees waived. She also told us at this point that no way would the bus be leaving at 2:30 but more likely 3pm by the time luggage was loaded and everyone boarded. This was devastating as this meant we could have just made our flight and been back in time for the bus. It was too late now as the tour company had left the bus station. We were tired of being stuffed around so kept our original ticket. 3pm came and went and I asked a man at the front how long the bus would be. He said ten minutes. The bus didn’t show up until 3:45 and finally left at FOUR PM. An hour and a half after what was scheduled and what we were told. We were so so disappointed to miss out on a once in a lifetime experience all because the first bus was delayed two hours and then the staff couldn’t tell us what time the next bus was arriving. Also to note there was no WiFi as advertised and actually every bus we took prior to this was also late. We would not recommend this company if you need to be in a place by a certain time. It appears if the staff don’t know the time the bus arrives, they just make it up. The busses are supposed to have GPS tracking which they clearly don’t utilize if staff don’t know the arrival time. Furthermore I’d recommend another company specifically for that reason- they should know where their buses are at for safety reasons. Unprofessional and unreliable.

We got the bus from Cusco to Puno and were not disappointed. The checking in, boarding, ‘in-flight’ and arrival all went smoothly (despite arriving an hour late, although I didn’t have any onward travel plans so this didn’t impact me really). The staff on board were really friendly and helpful - we received a pillow, blanket, snack and tea. Win! The seats are very comfy and the touch screen in the seat in front is a nice touch - there’s games available for kids too. I’d definitely use this bus company again however for my next onward travel in Peru it came up about £20 more expensive than other companies on the weekend. This is reflected in the service however when on a travel budget I was more than happy to pay a lower cost for a different bus. A great bus company all round, just make sure you shop around as prices change depending on the day and time of travel

We went to Huaraz from Lima and back which takes about 8 and a half hours. It’s not easy to make the online reservation and I suggest they improve their web to make it easier and quicker. Other than that it’s the perfect way to get to Huaraz (look for my reviews for Llanganuco, Pastoruri and La Aurora hotel) since there are no flights available any more. Seats are extremely comfortable with a 160o inclination, feet supporter, screen on each seat, blanket and pillow and air conditioning. Toilet only works as urinary but you may let the staff know if you need the bus to stop at a proper bathroom.
What you’ll need to bring - your own headphones, snacks and beverages. Even though they mention giving you snack and beverages it’s only a piece of bread and small cups of soda or water.

Took a night ride with this company between Arequipa and Cusco, it was 107 PEN (32 USD). Compared to other bus companies I took in Peru (Exclusivo, Tepsa, ...), this was the worst: when the person in front of you inclines his seat, you have no room to move your legs anymore, your legs are stuck between your and his seat. The temperature in the bus was too hot (even just in a t-shirt). Every seat has a tv screen, but these turn on automatically all the time during the night (on/off button too sensitive to the bad road). So didn’t sleep at all. Price vs quality for this ride?! Awful. First and last time I took this company.

I took a bus from Lima to Cusco. We left at 13:15 and arrived in Cusco at 12:00. The bus stopped twice for 10 minutes each stop. The seats only recline about 45° and the foot rest does not raise. We were served 2 meals I would call snacks. I was never offered a beverage. The bus was loud even with noise canceling headphones. I chose this route because my flight to Cusco had to return to Lima due to bad weather and I didn't want to repeat that mess. I've ridden in sleep buses in Vietnam and Cambodia that were amazing compared to this. I fell asleep for a couple hours due to sheer exhaustion. My advice is allow at least one week for a trip to Machu Picchu from Lima and back and take the 3 day 2 night PeruHop bus.

I have used Cruz del Sur on many occasions while travelling in Peru. I thought the trips were ok, but having now experienced other providers, I can see they are very expensive for what they provide and their customer service is difficult to work with, at least if you don't speak Spanish. I had a cancelled flight out of Cusco to Lima, which meant I would miss a booked trip with CdelS. I spent literally hours trying to get through to customer service. Phone numbers from the website were responding as not being correct. I finally managed to get through via online chat and asked if I could move the ticket to the following day. I was not only asked for the ticket and my passport but a fingerprint and signature. Very hard to provide when travelling. The customers service email i was asked to use returned as undelivered. I have emails saying these tickets will be regunded, now the response to my enquiry - 2 weeks after the trip, was I could transfer but not refund....which was what I wanted to do but because they didnt get back to me I booked and paid for the required ticket and so it should be refunded. The second cancellation was from Oxapampa to Lima. I turned up for my trip and there was no notification the trip had been cancelled due to a strike. This was 8pm at night and again would affect an ongoing journey. Strange other companies were running, and tickets were 1/3rd of the CdelS price. Now they are telling me they won't refund the ticket, only transfer. That's no good to me because I've moved on. It has been excruciating dealing with Cruz del Sur website and customer service. There really is none. There are several other good bus companies now using the same buses as Cruz del Sur at a fraction of the cost. I suggest you use them.

We took Cruz Del Sur from Lima to Nasca and 12 hours later took it back to Lima. On our way to Nasca, the service was great, the buses are very comfortable and we enjoyed it. But at Nasca we had a bad service.

The bus got delayed for 2 hours and nobody told us. We had to discover it from listening to another conversation. When I heard it. I went to the main desk to ask why but, since i don’t speak Spanish. I used a lot of google translation to make myself understood . The employee at the front desk mimic me using my cell phone and seem to make fun of me in front of his four other colleges, while I was speaking to a woman trying to understand the situation. When I looked at him again noticing what he was doing he stoped doing it and once I was not looking he did it again! I felt laughed at and this is so unprofessional and it hurts my feelings. I give 3 star cause the way there was fine but that wasn’t a good experience in Nasca.

If I could give this rating a zero, that’s what it would get. Bus tickets from Puno to Cusco were bought weeks in advanced and when we got to the Puno Terminal we were notified that the bus had been canceled. We were notified that an email was sent to notify us. There was NO email and we actually received a CONFIRMATION email for our bus the day before. They stated that the morning buses were canceled due to the things happening in Peru. But evening buses were still running. This inconvenience cost us to miss our connecting train to Aguas Callientes. This is extremely disappointing and infuriating situation since it caused a cascade of interruption to our plans and cost us a lot of money.

Use with caution! Not all busses are the same. I took a Cruz del Sur bus from Paracas to Ica. Was hands down the worst bus experience I had in Peru (I've also taken Exclusiva and Peru Bus). The bus left a half hour late. There was no AC, and even though it was a morning bus, it was hot and stuffy the whole way. If the windows could open, I would have jumped out! The bus driver also wasn't great, regularly stopping at green lights when there was time to continue through the intersection (probably explains why he showed up late to our stop in the first place). I think there are better busses in this fleet, but the one I rode definitely wasn't one of them.

This company is often recommended in tourist guides, as being safe, clean, punctual, etc...
We therefore agree to systematically pay more than other companies for a supposedly better service, but what a disappointment with each trip we made with it:
- Puno - Cusco = puncture, 2 hours late
- Cusco - Arequipa (night) = bus removed without being informed, we must take the bus one hour later...
- Huaraz - Lima (night) = the driver thought he was a rally driver in the corners, making emergency braking before the donkeys, not slowing down before the potholes, honking the horn all along the way. He must have forgotten that he was driving a bus with passengers trying to sleep... result, we arrive 1 hour early at the terminal which explains how fast he went on the way.

Moreover, their terminals are often very far from the city center compared to other companies. Boarding is far too protocol, we must come 30 minutes before to be filmed, scanned with luggage, etc.

They should put their energy into other more basic services that do not work.

We have been in South America for 3 months, we have used many companies and we can say that it is the worst!
